tdog 0 #26 March 21, 2006 Quote C'mon Chris, pushing people out of the door ain't cool. I am with you... The video is real funny... And they probably had a great skydive too... Both groups. Heck, they could be great friends and both groups could have been a-ok with the "assist".... But, I would never want to be pushed out myself, even by a best friend... If someone has a problem with me continuously screwing up exits, talk to me on the ground, but don't risk me wasting my $$$ by having a skydive gone bad - because the exit sucked, because we were pushed out before we were ready... Or worse - like getting hurt because our grips were not correct (I know someone who waited to give an exit count because their hand was stuck around the grab-bar - and they got hurt because the rest of the group thought the exit count was forgotten) There is actually someone I used to respect a lot, a real great freeflier, who I saw push out a 4way team member on a very serious training jump... I lost all respect for him that moment... I will never jump with him... He wasted 4 people's money for his own amusement... I am not condemning your actions or criticising you or even comparing you to the guy who I saw give a push... Just kindly asking that you don't do it to me... (And since we never have met and probably won't be on the same plane - this request is one of those more broad to the community requests.)
Dolph 0 #27 March 21, 2006 Heh, that wasn't a push. That was a gentle reminder "you guys need to jump off this plane now". If he'd pushed me and I thought the spot was all f*cked up, I'd turned my head and let some words fly. If OTOH we were just sitting there waiting for each other to count, I'd think "yeah OK" and get out of the plane. As said before, really depends on context. velvetjo 0 #28 March 21, 2006 Chris, everybody I talked to who was on that load thought it was amusing and didn't mind a bit. Like you said, they were all just staring at each other because nobody gave a count. The video is a hoot! To the fun police: unclench a litte, eh? AMax 0 #29 March 21, 2006 Quote Anyway ... A 4 way team that used to jump in Hollister way back when, used to sit at the door and wait for their spot to be just right. A guy named Kevin cured them of that habit. After causing us to barely make it back too many times in a row, they were at it again. Kevin planted his foot firmly on the ass of one of the flyers and assisted them in performing an acrobatic exit. I am not sure what I'd do if I was on that team ... break Kevin's nose right after that jump or promise Kevin to break his nose if he ever tries to pull that trick again
hookitt 1 #30 March 21, 2006 If you were on that team... you would have deserved it. It was getting old asking them to leave earlier or let us out first. They continuously hosed us and stopped right after that dive. Kevin is a gentle giant, but a giant nonetheless. JeepDiver 0 #33 March 21, 2006 This video just rubs me the wrong way. I don't like being pushed on the ground, in life or by anyone. Call it my fighting Irish spirit. ... all for a 30 second spot or for a go around. What I'm going to be looking forward to is.... once I land on the ground is... fist fighting 'cause I was pushed out of an freaking airplane when I was not ready to jump from it. Maybe the guy you pushed , you pushed because he is the type of guy who can be pushed out of an airplane... and since he didn't get hurt, or it didn't go bad he can laugh about it.... Chris "call me weird" QuoteWow! The first time this video was linked here in the forums, EVERYONE thought it was funny. THIS time some people are taking it so damn seriously. Weird. Jeesh. We all just thought it was funny. From what I can see of the video, the people doing the pushing, and it's 2 people are not looking at the spot or out the airplane. What you assume is happening may not in fact be be happening. Anyone watching the video can see the last guy in the door is given 4 seconds, 4 seconds n the door before he is pushed out of the plane. By two different jumpers, not the 15 seconds as is claimed. Here is what I would do, I'd be looking to kick red sleeve's and black sleeve's ass once I landed on the ground and if my ass was the only one kicked at the very least I stood up for myself. "Best skydiving movie ever" That attitude is childish, dangerous & stupid. IMHO ... and I look at your profile and the USPA has given you an Instructor rating and your pushing jumpers not ready to exit an aircraft in flight out of it.. Call me weird. And then you or whoever post's the video on the internet. Smart. Hopefully you'll see just how stupid your actions are by the response of other jumpers and learn from them instead of bitching out some sort of reply to me. Maybe this happens everyday and since I'm a noob I do not know any better. If that's the case I'm sorry.... just do not do it to me. I saw in the Introductions forum just the other day a new jumper asking about Skydive Fingerlakes, my opinion of that DZ has changed after watching this video. RMURRAY 1 #34 March 21, 2006 QuoteI give up. I pushed them out. There could have been a million "what ifs" that I never considered. I didn't need to push them and probably could have done something different. My bad. yes, don't push people out the door no matter what the pilot or GPS is saying. On the other hand, if you are going to jump don't hesitate while in the door - do that with just your head sticking out so you can turn to the freefliers or pilot and tell them to shut the fuck up.... rm
Eiley 0 #35 March 21, 2006 Bloody hell! When did skydivers get so soft? The vid was funny. Sometimes doing the unexpected can be funny. Hell, I've seen the pilot put a plane into a neggy and tip the spotter out much to the merriment of the others in the plane (and, later, the jumper himself who certainly saw the funny side of it). But then, I thought the Mr Bill landing was pretty cool too. nothing to see here
PhreeZone 20 #36 March 21, 2006 We used to have a 4 way team that would take 12-15 seconds in the door in a Otter and about the same in a CASA. The choice was to take the cost of tickets up to keep affording the go arounds needed since we could only get them and maybe one other group out the door on the first pass or everyone could get out and walk back. Do you know how bad I would to have loved to have done this to them rather then walk a mile back all the time? I see people complaining about wasting other peoples money, yet why aren't you wasting someones money if you get in their way as they want to swoop? Aren't you wasting other peoples money if you funnel an exit? How about if the camera guy takes you out? Did he just waste everyones money? I am not sure what I'd do if I was on that team ... break Kevin's nose right after that jump or promise Kevin to break his nose if he ever tries to pull that trick again If the team made a habit of it, then they should let other RW groups out in front of them rather than hose the back of the plane. Some skydivers don't think - that goes for FF and RW and anyone else. Cowden's thing is harmless - We did have a group of freeflyers PUSH out (someone else's) 4-way during a 4-way competition last year. These FFers did not have experience jumping from an Otter and would scream GOGOGOGOGO at the green light - on a windy day - then were dumping out of the airplane on top of each other (scared of being left long) the entire weekend and opening SHORT of the DZ (on a windy day when everyone should have been long). They were a serious danger to themselves and others and had no clue on spacing or spotting. No substitute for experience. When the last group out of the plane is opening on top of the 2nd to last group and still just barely directly overhead (when the winds are such that they could be past another 2 or 3 tenths,......) Cowden's little nudge looked harmless. The person in green was looking for an excuse to exit. I think it was great and no issue AT ALL. In fact, in a little DZ where you all know each other, that stuff is a sign of good cooperation. (although with 2 groups on a cessna, 15 seconds or so won't hurt anyone who doesn't have a round - and why are they using GPS to spot a little plane like that? Doesn't anyone have EYES?) ... mattjw916 2 #39 March 21, 2006 Lighten up dude... You are backsliding like a mofo in your avatar btw, get those legs out... I think I have been pushed, tripped, grabbed and had my exit intentionally funneled by my friends more times than I can count with no ill-effects. After you have been jumping for a while you will realize some groups develop a propensity for hosing the load since they take forever to climbout and exit. _That_ pisses me off since I'm usually one of the last groups because I freefly and will have to pull high-ish (if it's safe) so I can make it back or not get to swoop since I had to chew up all my altitude just getting back to the DZ.NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

PhreeZone 20 #43 March 21, 2006 We'd turn the light on half a mile short and they would wait until the spot was right anyways to climb out and take their time. Nothing changed their behaivor. You are going to be hard pressed to find a DZO willing to throw a team off that was commiting to buy 1000+ jumps in a year in a seasonable area like the Midwest. Lose a 4 way team at most DZ's around here and you really end up losing the 1000 tickets, 2-3 staff and the ability to host the NSL meets which is another 200+ tickets in a single day sold. Its better business sense to toss off a few freefliers then a 4 way team almost any day of the weekYesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

anewempire 0 #45 March 21, 2006 this is ridiculous. he didn't even push the guy. he gave him a little nudge and the guy went. if the guy he nudged didn't want to leave the airplane he wouldn't have. it was just a "what are you guys waiting for" nudge. people need to chill out. if he actually pushed him it may be a different story but he DIDN'T

Icon134 0 #47 March 21, 2006 I know of at least one 4-way team that always got out at 10.5k even for practice... even when the rest of the load was going up to 14k. They did this for a few reasons at least: 1. they always got the spot they wanted and didn't hose anyone in the process. 2. they had the airspace and landing area to themselves. and 3. They had enough time to get containers packed, discus the last jump, and dirt dive the next jump in time for back to back loads.Livin' on the Edge... sleeping with my rigger's wife... Ron 10 #50 March 21, 2006 The video is funny, but also wrong. It is not your job to tell them when to leave. QuotePilot said GO! because he was spotting with GPS and we needed to get out now It is not the pilots job to tell a group when to go. I realize that a bunch of folks don't think that way, but that does not make it correct. The pilot can tell a group when it is safe to leave, but it is the jumpers responsibility to spot. QuoteThe RW group was up to about 15 seconds in the door and they were NOT spotting, they hadn't decided who was doing the count, so they were all just sitiing there staring at each other. Then they were stupid, but you were rude. QuoteThe pilot was saying GO! again and we needed to GO. The pilot does not decide when I leave a plane....*I do*. Skydivers should not be green light lemmings. Pushing them was rude....I will admit it was funny. But still rude. If they had no issue with it, then no harm no foul....however if they reamed you a new asshole I would agree with them as well. Case study. I was point on a 4way team. I was reaching for my grip, when I saw a plan below us. I refused to take the grip and that delayed our exit. Only the OC knew something was wrong. After the plane left our area I took the grip and we launched. Not even the video guy knew somethingw as wrong...How the hell could YOU in th eplane known something was wrong?
