riggerrob 643 #1 February 20, 2015 What is USPA policy on wind turbines? How close is too close to a DZ? How tall is too tall? How large a wind turbine farm is too many? I have jumped at Byron and California City where wind turbine farms are just part of the scenery in the distance. Let's limit this discussions to direct threats to skydivers and jump planes. kallend 2,106 #2 February 20, 2015 Wind farms are clearly marked on Sectional Charts and are obvious from miles away in VMC, so jump plane pilots should be well aware of their existence.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.

Especially at night as they have red strobes on the top that flash on each tower simultaneously. Parts of southern Minnesota look like a rave at night. Clonedbeef 0 #7 February 24, 2015 Gee, it sure would be a shame if something happened to those wind turbines after they spent so much money on them. Just saying.
ryoder 1,590 #8 February 24, 2015 Has Transport Canada given this their approval? In the US, I don't think the FAA would be happy about 312' structures 4900' from an existing airport."There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones. gunpaq 1 #9 February 24, 2015 The age old way to obtain prime real estate is to make said real estate's current use non-compliant thus forcing an eventual sale. One example was a real estate developer in PA wanting to obtain a private airport property for a housing development so he first develops the surrounding properties making the airport a community hazard. This type of tact seems to be what is happening with the wind turbines throughout North America and not just for small airports.www.geronimoskydiving.com
