FlyingRhenquest 1 #1 July 13, 2014 Heyo! Having just had an off-the-rack brand x jumpsuit fall apart on me, I was wondering how long one should expect to get out of an average jumpsuit. This one had probably 3 hours of tunnel time and about 100 jumps on it. When you think about it, it's really not adding an awful lot to my per-minute cost. If I ever decide to go with a more expensive custom-measured suit I'm wondering if I should expect more time from one of those.I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
SkyCoi 0 #2 July 13, 2014 A lot of factors go into how long one should last, including quality and manufacturer, but also you and how you treat it. Sliding in on your ass or otherwise biffing it takes a toll, for sure. So does not storing it properly or never washing it. All that said, you generally also get what you pay for so plan to spend a little more for something that will last. I have a Tony freefly suit that I love and have put over 800 jumps on - but it started shredding after less than an hour in the tunnel. If you're going to spend any amount of time in the tunnel then consider getting something like a Vertical suit. Tunnels are brutal on jumpsuits, and the Vertical will stand up to both the tunnel and skydiving ... so long as you stay off your ass
mattjw916 2 #3 July 13, 2014 the tunnel will destroy suits... especially ones with a lot of drag like the "brand X" suits I often see the newbs sporting bad landings also kill suits in no timeNSCR-2376, SCR-15080
michalm21 2 #4 July 14, 2014 I guess it depends on many factors, right? I've had my liquidsky suit for 5 years now, about 400 jumps and maybe 25hrs of tunnel time and still going strong. I have a few tunnel burns on my arms but that's about it. I had freak'n'fly suit but never took it to the tunnel and it got stolen on the dz so only had btw 100-200 jumps on that and it was like new
muff528 3 #5 July 14, 2014 I used mine for 15 years. (~850-900 jumps and many washes). If I decide to start jumping again, I'll use it some more. (Bev Suit).
billvon 2,997 #6 July 14, 2014 Depends a _lot_ on what you do with it. Competitive 4-way suits don't last that long because there's a lot of force/wear on grippers; you'd be lucky to get 500 jumps out of one. Bootie bottoms wear out from landings of course. Camera suits can last a long time (with the exception of bootie bottoms) - you can easily go over 1000 jumps. As someone else mentioned the tunnel is very hard on suits because you're often bouncing off the walls/net. Also even a good 4-way competitor (who rarely touches anything) will have the equivalent of a thousand jumps of wear after only ten hours in the tunnel.
