Not only has it become a religion that causes knee-jerk reactions almost as strong as the "War on Christmas" does, it's very good money for a lot of people. Come to think of it, that makes it very similar to the right's other religions. A good overview of who pays for climate change denial, and why. From the referenced study: "This is how wealthy individuals or corporations translate their economic power into political and cultural power. They have their profits and they hire people to write books that say climate change is not real. They hire people to go on TV and say climate change is not real. It ends up that people without economic power don't have the same size voice as the people who have economic power, and so it ends up distorting democracy." https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/meet-the-money-behind-the-climate-denial-movement-180948204/
gowlerk 2,245 #3 March 30, 2023 (edited) Of course I stole and adapted the thread title from another source, but the idea is not new. It has been studied and noted in academia. Here is a paper about the link to religion. rutgers-lib-51571_PDF-1.pdf Edited March 30, 2023 by gowlerk
gowlerk 2,245 #4 March 30, 2023 And then there is this. https://www.pewresearch.org/science/2015/10/22/religion-and-views-on-climate-and-energy-issues/ So it is no wonder we have trolls claiming climate science is a religion. Superstition and religion are the only way they are capable of seeing the world. Change and new ideas are frightening and must be resisted in the scary world they inhabit.
StreetScooby 5 #5 March 31, 2023 There's a great book regarding global warming. It contains all of the seminal papers written about global warming since the 18th century. https://www.amazon.com/Warming-Papers-Scientific-Foundation-Forecast-ebook/dp/B00CM7AI9M/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1ALZFYC06E75P&keywords=The+Warming+Papers&qid=1680297653&sprefix=the+warming+papers%2Caps%2C477&sr=8-1 We need to become better stewards of our planet. I don't think anyone would argue against that.
