Phil1111 1,149 #1 Posted May 26, 2023 It appears as if the republican presidential nomination campaign is in full swing. For anyone who thinks there is a rational player among them. I use the term player because they are all playing to the trump MAGA base. There was a recent story about Jan 6th and the recent convictions. DeSantis has come out and stated that as far as he is concerned pardons for convicted Jan. 6th insurrectionists is a given. The fist thing he will do as president is to fire the FBI director and initiate a full investigation about the "weaponization of the justice system". So anti-woke, anti- law enforcement, well trump squared. Here are The Hill's rankings of where the contenders stand right now. In order of popularity. Former President Trump. ... Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. ... Former United Nations ambassador Nikki Haley. ... Sen. Tim Scott (S.C.) ... Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin. ... Former Vice President Pence. ... Vivek Ramaswamy. ... Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

kallend 2,106 #3 May 26, 2023 The Republican Party used to pride itself on being a “big tent” party. Seems its interpretation of the term "big tent" means giving every loony, flat earther, conspiracy theorist, ignoramus or bigot (or combination of the above) an equal role.

As I looked through the list I glanced at the bottom and my first thought was that Brent would be better than trump-DeSantis. Then Howdy Doody jumped up and saved the day. trump has single handily managed to drive every moderate out of the running. What happened to Cheney? If the current list of candidates managed to get in power. The US would look like Erdogan's Turkey within a couple years. Imagine the debt explosion with another trump or DeSantis in office. As I have posted many times, the first time I ever voted for POTUS, the choices were LBJ & Goldwater. I thought, 'Is this the best that this country can do?' The choices will be a lot easier next year: Biden vs any GOP nutcase. Jerry Baumchen PS) I have never failed to vote in any election in that I was eligible to vote in. Was just there working for a week. I was actually on the way to the airport to fly out when the driver pointed out Erdogan's residence. Sightseeing in Istanbul for a day then on a plane to DFW in the morning before things get sketchy protesting whoever wins tomorrow's elections.
