brianfry713 0 #101 February 24, 2006 I don't mean to stir this up more, but there's another tandem hybrid, this time with a sit flying stinger and a hangar, shot by the same photographer in Mexico on Skydive Radio's pic of the week. www.skydiveradio.com Note, this will be under previous PICS of the WEEK, for 2/20/06 after 2/28/06. Liemberg 0 #102 February 24, 2006 If you are going to hang from a tandem and have your picture taken while doing it - do everybody a favor and consider the benefits of jumpsuits over T-shirts... They'd better watch out for Zorro's revenge over there... "Whoever in discussion adduces authority uses not intellect but memory." - Leonardo da Vinci A thousand words... stratostar 5 #103 February 25, 2006 Well to each their own. You won't see anyone I know doing a tandem in mexico or at any other country or dz that would condone this kind of stupid act. ~you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo
billvon 2,991 #104 February 25, 2006 >You won't see anyone I know doing a tandem in mexico or at any >other country or dz that would condone this kind of stupid act. When I started skydivng people were saying the same things about wingsuits. Everyone KNEW that wingsuits would kill you; there had been several fatalities due to people trying to fly with both flexible and rigid wings. Heck, I remember when a friend of mine told me there was no way he'd ever do RW with someone who had an AAD. What if he got low and his Sentinel misfired? Someone could die! When I first started doing tandems, I speculated about ZP tandem canopies. "Tandem is dangerous enough without having to land a Stiletto after every jump!" I was told. (Which was silly - I just meant ZP topskins. No one in their right mind would ever make an elliptical tandem canopy!)
stratostar 5 #105 February 25, 2006 Like I said to each their own, I think it is foolish others don't. But I do understand your point. I can't wait till we see everyone here in the states doing it. In case everyone is wondering why I got an issue with this stuff, you all might remember where I was working this last summer had a TM get taken out by a cameraman. I don't feel free to post my real feelings on that theres person left living with it. Buy I will say who here would like to carry that load with them, sure that 3d looks cool, but is it work the risk, who here wants to sign up to live with the fact your joe cool act killed two people! I will say some of todays jumpers need to pull their head out of their ass and stop risking tandem students just to "live on the eage" & be the cool guy. ~you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo
mark135 0 #106 February 25, 2006 These camera people have to get it through their head never to sacrifice safety for a cool shot........ unless it's a really really cool shot _______________ "It seemed like a good idea at the time"
Orange1 0 #107 February 25, 2006 possibly dumb newbie question - is there any stress on the drogue from having 4 people hanging under it?Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
Liemberg 0 #108 February 25, 2006 Quoteis there any stress on the drogue from having 4 people hanging under it? Compared to the 'snatch / shock' it gets to endure during an occasional drogue throw after 10 seconds of freefall? I'd be surprised... Besides, the sitflyer in the picture holds hands with the passenger but flies on his own air. The only problem I see is premature openings and their undesired side effects. Right from underneath the tandempair it can get very ugly very fast. Of course things like that can happen on any hybrid but then usually none of the participants is a sitting duck who is trailing a drogue while firmly strapped to a third party who doesn't know what the f&*# is going on... Deuce 1 #109 February 26, 2006 Yeah, the problem that I see as most probable is the hanger corking up into the drogue/bridle. I got some great advice really early on when first time tandem passengers ask for flips and barrel-rolls and "crazy!" extra stuff on the skydive. Say "sure!" and do a stable presentation exit and throw the drogue. I have yet to have a passenger land and complain. First time tandem jumpers are overloaded at exit anyhow, and don't notice that I didn't throw in a complication. I can't wait until we get somebody who comes in and asks if they can have somebody hang off them in droguefall.
