Still in the Dark Ages

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

I, for sure, am no Bible expert.  However, I thought it begins with 'Let there be light.'  Yes/no?

Then, why is the Catholic Church still living in the Dark Ages:  Rose City Catholics Fight for LGBTQ Rights—and Start a War With Portland’s Archbishop (wweek.com)

Hi folks,

Looks like a grass-roots uprising; I would expect more in the future:  irate parents and teachers are swarming the board’s meetings

1In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

3And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.

What else are you missing?

Just like 80's hair bands. . .it's just a fade.  Tho in this case it's just another boogie man to garner votes from "minorities"

What Genesis is missing is good science.

If being gay is just a "fad" then the RC Church is a small flash in the pan.

As my Rabbi pointed out, when asked whether Adam was 'created' knowing how to count, the significance of his age and so forth, "Bubbie, it's Bronze Age family lore - don't read too much into it."

Opinions apparently vary on the matter, but that seemed to sum it up.

Given that depictions of homosexuality and transgenderism go back to around 7000BC - I think it's pretty much here to stay.  It certainly predates the Bible and Christianity.

Given that homosexuality is observed in several species of animals, I'd say it's been around for a couple of million years at least. Probably around as long as animals have been around, which is around 500 million years.

Unless you count single-celled interactions (at least some protists are known to undergo meiosis) which extends that to about 1.5 billion years. A bit longer than the 6000 years than the creationists think the earth has been around for.

Creationists are up there with genuine flat earthers as a special kind of stupid.
(I distinguish "Genuine" flat earthers here - I'm pretty sure most flat earthers MUST be taking the piss for shits and giggles)

I assume that belief is based on the thinking "almost no one can be that stupid."

I assure you, they can be.  Look at the people who play the Lottery when they are broke so they can win and pay their bills.

This talk about the Bible got me thinking.  If God created the universe, where was he when he created it.  There must have been somewhere else he was hanging out.  Was he in his condo or on the beach with Snoop Dog drinking a Corona.  It says he created it in 6 days.  Well if there was no earth rotating on it's axis and revolving around the sun, how could there be any days.  It says after the 6 days, he rested on the 7th.  I know Saturday and Sunday are considered the weekend but the calendar has Sunday at the beginning of the week.  Who ever wrote the Bible must not have had an editor because a lot of other things don't make much sense either.

The Christian "New Testament" mainly quotes sermons that were originally spoken in the Aramaic language that was spoken in Palestine 2,000 years ago. Then some of the Bible was translated into Greek (the dominant language of scholars) then some was translated into Latin (precursor to modern Italian) then Wycliffe, etc. translated the Bible into English. Parts of meanings were lost every time the Bible was translated. Then Wycliffe staff translated the Bible into hundreds of little-known languages ... and the process continues ....

You are quoting Canadian Professor Jordan Peterson (clinical psychologist) in that he perceives the current fad for trans-gender surgery to be a fad. A fad like teenagers cutting their own skin .... a fad the Salem Witch Hunts ... a fad like another dozen religious crusades .... a fad like a variety of religious jihads ... a fad like the Flat Earth Society ... a fad like disco music ....

What isn't a fad is Christian clergy grooming and abusing kids:

These days important to note he is not a drag queen.

No, if anything that seed was planted by the 80s videos I was posting in the music video thread that day and something I read in L.A times that I posted here about a year ago:

https://www.latimes.com/world-nation/story/2022-04-12/a-transgender-psychologist-reckons-with-how-to-support-a-new-generation-of-trans-teens

"She has helped hundreds of teens transition. But she has also come to believe that some children identifying as trans are falling under the influence of their peers and social media and that some clinicians are failing to subject minors to rigorous mental health evaluations before recommending hormones or surgeries. “I think it’s gone too far. . ."

Edit

Actually no, I remember now.  It was from this Bill Maher Segment that referenced that article:

Hmmm, that's pretty much the opposite of what most astrophysicists are saying today.

. . .but they say a lot these days.

Anyway, never really thought about it like that before.  Interesting.  Makes sense tho that it would be that way. . .opposite.

Citation needed.

You need a citation for how astrophysicists are saying the opposite of what the Bible says?  Because that's what I meant.

I was associating the photon epoch with "the beginning."  So in that sense it's the opposite since Scripture says He created the Heavens and the Earth, then He created light.

But then again, maybe it's not really the opposite.  Was there light prior to the photon epoch?  Maybe, but it wouldn't have been as transparent, and differ from our contemporary understanding of light.

Bottom line is that the Bible is not a science book.  It's long enough as it is without explaining everything in planck time.

It effectively conveyed its intended message in a manner that was accessible and comprehensible to the people of that era. Basically that God did it.

No astrophysicist says the Earth existed before photons.  Not  single one.

The Bible is false from the very first verse.

"Begin as you mean to go on" as the preacher said.
