hangingon 0 #1 February 4, 2014 Can anyone recommend a good book, in layman terms, to read about skydiving in preparation to get certified.Change the energy
riggerrob 643 #2 February 4, 2014 Dan Poyner wrote the Skydiver's Handbook. Michael Turoff helped Poynter update the last edition ... Some Brit wrote a book about learning how to skydive in seven days ...
mattjw916 2 #3 February 4, 2014 There's always the SIM as well: http://www.uspa.org/Portals/0/Downloads/Man_SIM_2014.pdf Plus you can find just about the entire ground school portion on youtube as well as AFF jumps from about a thousand people.NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
GLIDEANGLE 1 #4 February 4, 2014 Here is the USPA online jump school: http://skydiveschool.org/ My only caveat is that your DZ may use a different emergency procedure than the one shown on this site. The choices we make have consequences, for us & for others! evan85 0 #5 February 4, 2014 These are all good options for a brand-new skydiver. Once you have your A license (around 25 jumps)--in addition to continuing to read and internalize these--I'd suggest The Parachute and Its Pilot. A little advanced for someone who's never flown a canopy before, but really great information once you're ready for it. Read it at 25 jumps, then again at 100, then again at 250, and probably some more after that. Great insight that keeps getting better and deeper as you get more of your own canopy flight time. May you never quit learning, never think that you've achieved peak performance. The absolute best people in our sport are very humble people who are constantly striving to improve. hangingon 0 #7 February 4, 2014 I actually bought this book used over the summer and have just started reading it. It makes a lot more sense now after reading various topics in the forum. Thanks.Change the energy
