kkeenan 14 #26 January 12, 2014 Years ago, I had a round PVC handle, and on one jump, I put my hand on the handle and for some reason I delayed the pull for an extra second or two. I think someone was angling in and I wanted a bit more clearance. Anyway, it seems that my hand started playing with the handle on its own, and as a got ready to pull, I realized that I had stuck my index finger through the hole in the tube. I quickly got my finger out of there and tossed the pilot chute, but every time after that, when I jumped that rig, I kept my hand away until I was ready to deploy right away. It's true what they say about idle hands doing the devil's work. Kevin K._____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ? Boogers 0 #27 January 13, 2014 skydiverekWeren't the first plastic PVC handles all orange? That's a case where colors seem kind of silly. It's a bottom of container location, behind your ass and under your rig, which you can't possibly see in freefall anyway. It's deployed by feel only. So it could be any darned color you want, and it wouldn't matter one whit. (What's a whit?) What should count there is the tactile shape and feel of the handle - since you're going by feel alone, it's got to be something easily recognizable by feel alone, and not confused with some other part of the rig. All of your handles should be easy for others to see. Even though others know where your main handle is going to be, you should want it emphasized so that in the heat of battle/funnel/whatever, it is easier for others to see and avoid.People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
ChuckMartin 0 #29 January 14, 2014 Makes it easier to see on the plane too. If the bottom of your rig, pilot chute, and handle are all the same color it would be hard for other people to notice if your pilot chute is sticking out some and warn you about it. Should be something you're checking but sometimes people don't. Every few weeks I see somebody being told to check their pilot chute on the ride up. Inserting a wine cork, or glueing swimming pool noodle works great (weights nothing and closes the 'hole').
