Time to think strategically. It's time for Harris to bow out to spend more time gardening. Then Biden picks a semi-liberal white male for his running mate who isn't yet 72, who has executive experience, has at least a few gray hairs, and who is from a mid-west industrial state that leans red: Sherrod Brown comes to mind.

Then hope like hell.

I don’t know why you guys are shocked, the man has been in obvious decline for years.

We aren’t. We’re displaying honesty and rationality. We recognize that there are likely enough voters who will vote Trump, regardless of the depth and breadth of the problems that brings, over a sad old man who needs to let go and that democracy as we know it now will be at risk.

Hi Joe,

Not going to work.  IMO the only way to beat Trump is with a whole new team.

At this time, Biden is far worse than a lame duck.

The mechanism to emplace a whole new team isn't straight forward, it seems. Also, while we agree about Biden we are still waiting on post debate polling for guidance. We're also waiting to see if Trump is put in the can by Merchan. Now that would be some real patriotism.

Exactly.  We need to see what our opinions are before we have them prematurely.

Hi Bill,

Sure, go ahead & wait until Nov  5th & see what happens.

PS)  I just got a text from the Biden camp; it ends with this:  'Because as you read this, Trump is hammering Joe Biden.'

No shit!!!!!!!!

Hi Joe,

What I am reading, the DNC is not going to like it.

That kind of describes Hillary Clinton. If she were a man, she'd be considered a hardass who can get things done. Since she's a woman and a liberal (sort of), she's the bitch-devil incarnate.

Biden's speech after the debate

Prior to seeing this speech, I was seriously concerned as well, but he IS doing a great job in office.

Seems he might have a cold? I think he started out quite nervous, then the constant stream of nothing but lies set him back on his heels. Backed into a corner his stutter took over.

I'll take stuttering truths and accomplishments over a global disaster of a rapist convicted felon POTUS every day.

Hi Mark,

If Joe Biden is the DNC nominee, I will support him & vote for him.

However, he will not win.

Just as I predicted, Trump Gish Galloped his way through the debate, and Heather Cox Richardson agrees:

Hi Robert,

From your link:   the fact that Trump lied and rambled incoherently, ignored questions to say whatever he wanted; refused to acknowledge the events of January 6, 2021; and refused to commit to accepting the result of the 2024 presidential election

Did anyone expect anything else?

Her thoughts are more of a, 'Hey, look over here' than acknowledging that Joe made those on the fence about his physical & mental condition, reach a conclusion.

Maybe if Joe wins the decathlon this summer in Paris, he can salvage last nite's peformance.

It’s nice that he can still stand at a podium and read a speech from a teleprompter. But that won’t be enough to undo the damage. Nor should it be.

If the D party dares to nominate Biden in spite of the fact that he clearly is not up to the job then they deserve to lose. Good luck America. Maybe God will bless you.

Fine defeatist attitudes if there ever was two. A leader surrounds themselves with the best advisors, listens to their council and then makes decisions.

Even if Biden becomes incapacitated he has a qualified VP.

trump on the other hand will surround himself with the worst of the worst. In addition if the GOP seizes control of the government. With the Chevron decision and a USSC that see's itself as law unto itself. It will gut every environmental and social law- precedent ever made. The US will become one giant pseudo-christian, AR-15 a-totin, corporate free for all.

That's correct and why I am scrubbing my internet presence, going long Roubles, and buying lots of Red Ball Caps and an embroidery machine.

Hi Phil,

I appreciate your thoughts.  However, not everyone is in agreement:  In the early hours of Friday morning, a string of high-profile Democratic strategists, pundits, and former officials joined the call for Mr. Biden to bow out.

Katty Kay: Reality sinks in as Democrats weigh Biden's future (bbc.com)

I would like to have been the proverbial fly on the wall during those calls.

I would really like to see Joe Biden defeat Trump.  Trump is one of the most worthless people this country has ever produced.  And, Joe is a really nice guy.

However, that does not win elections.

Jerry Baumchen

PS)  As regards 'defeatist,' I prefer realist.

Agreed. The whole thing sucks. The reality is that there is not unlimited time until there is no more time so if Biden can be replaced with a better choice it has to be on the table and open for discussion. That is what realists do. If Trump is sent to the slammer or some other debilitating thing befalls him or if there is no replacement than we continue eyes wide open.

Hi Joe,

Nobody can win an election with their head in the sand.

The DNC must face the truth.
