weight choice for weight belts (not how much I would need)

Recommended Posts

Hello,
I am planning on buying a weight belt to help me a bit with my fall rate (for 4-way formations and when jumping with other people who fall a lot faster), and I am planning on purchasing one with roughly 8-10lbs. I was asked by the manufacturer if I wanted the weights in bags of 1lbs or 2lbs (and that they usually do 2lbs).

I was thinking of asking for 1lbs bags because they seem to be "universal" and easier to find if I need to add more. Also might be better if I would like to remove 1lbs instead of 2 in 1 go.

I am mostly looking for some advice/ opinions on the subject.

Thanks in advance for the replies and help. :)

Hi there! I have a belt with the weights in 2lb increments. I like it a lot and recommend the 2 lbs units.

I don't really see a need to have them in 1 lb increments. 1 lb (hell, even 2 lbs) doesn't make that big of a difference. Normally if I'm going to go to the trouble of adding/removing weight units, I do at least 4 lbs at a time. (Obviously don't wear too much weight or make drastic changes until you're used to flying with a weight belt.)

When you're on a 10 min. call and need to add 6 lbs, do you want to sit there fiddling with 6 thingamajigs or 3? And when you have some of the weight out do you want to have to keep up with a bunch of little weight units or half that many?

Also, I did get a good quality belt, but did not pay someone else to make the weight units. I got a bunch of BB's, weighed out 2 lbs, and put them in doubled-up Ziplock bags. Cost about $20.
