Why does Good suddenly think that they should continue counting the mail-in votes that were posted but not received by election day?

Good is 343 votes behind McGuire at this time.

Trump recently made this claim:

"I have wounds all over my body.  If I took this shirt off, you'd see a beautiful, beautiful person but you'd see wounds all over me.  I've taken a lot of wounds. More than any president ever."

Putting aside the spectre of Trump doing some sort of striptease for the audience, the idea that he could make some kind of figurative comparison to his former opponents (like John McCain) or previous presidents (like JFK) and have his supporters eat it up . . . reflects pretty poorly on them.

And if he really DOES believe he has actual wounds, his previous words come to mind: ""Look, I don't want any wounded guys in the parade.  This doesn't look good for me."

If you are going to claim wounds, shouldn't you first at least pretend to have military service? Or is he claiming to have been a gang-banger?

My hope is the wounds were inflicted by Melania when she learned about Stormy.

Somewhere Lincoln, Garfield, McKinley, and Kennedy are looking down in sympathy.

I read it the other way.

That Good is claiming his opponent is bringing in mail in ballots without postmarks.

Quote

Now Good is borrowing a page from Trump's playbook by claiming his election was rigged. Good went on Steve Bannon's podcast to rattle off a list of accusations and conspiracies about his election being stolen:

"It's getting crazier by the minute, more irregularities. More resistance to a true and accurate canvas. We got reports in the Lynchburg registrar's office that they've been allowing my opponent to drop off ballots after election day that aren't postmarked ...

Honestly I assumed he was comparing himself to Jesus on the cross. The evangelicals would let him get away with it.

Nahhh.

He's just assuming that the MAGA morons are gullible enough to believe ANYTHING he says.

Previous behavior by his followers indicates he's not wrong.

Because Dejoy like it that way.

Why should our votes NOT count because the mail is delayed?

Mail is postmarked the date it's accepted by the Post Office.

The delays during processing or delivery don't affect that.

The claim is that ballots that were NOT postmarked were being dropped off late.

Republican congressman Adam Kinzinger endorsed Biden today, citing the threat to the United States posed by Trump.  Kinzinger, who is a veteran and currently serving in the Air National Guard, had this to say:

"So while I certainly don’t agree with President Biden on everything, and I never thought I’d be endorsing a Democrat for president, I know that he will always protect the very thing that makes America the best country in the world: our democracy.  Donald Trump poses a direct threat to every fundamental American value.  He doesn’t care about our country. He doesn’t care about you. He only cares about himself, and he will hurt anyone or anything in pursuit of power.”

Kinzinger retired from Congress in 2022, and thus is not under threat of cancellation by the Trump hordes.  They may target his family though; we'll see.

It is remarkable how many republicans and close Trump associates are coming out against him.  Almost as if the better someone gets to know him, the more opposed they are to him.

He’s now complaining that he was tortured when he was arraigned in Georgia.

But since he (checks notes) repeatedly called for the police to beat people up while arresting them, shouldn’t he be happy about it?

For context:

"When you see these towns and when you see these thugs being thrown into the back of a paddy wagon, you just see them thrown in, rough, I said, 'Please don't be too nice.'  Like when you guys put somebody in the car and you're protecting their head - you know, the way you put their hand over - like, 'Don't hit their head' . . . I said, 'You can take the hand away, OK?'"

Hi Bill,

Anyone, and I mean anyone, who thinks Trump cares about anyone other than himself is a total fool.

Barnum was right.

I think he is talking figuratively. When he refers to veterans he means those who might have missing limbs, burns etc. That they have received while serving the interests of the country. So the opposite of a "beautiful, beautiful person".

His wounds are those inflicted by Dems. and the corrupt courts. Much money has been spent prepping his base to accept felonies as badges of honor for republicans. Preparing his base to look at all the convictions of his followers as unjust. In 1984 a famous author coined the term "doublethink" also known as "groupthink". To explain the GOP base today.

Right, but even then -

John Kerry was Swift Boated.  Biden is regularly called a pedophile.  John Quincy Adams accused Jefferson of outright murdering six of the troops under his command.  Charles Hammons wrote an editorial in the Cincinnati Gazette (a large paper at the time) claiming "General Jackson’s mother was a COMMON PROSTITUTE brought to this country by British soldiers. She afterwards married a MULATTO MAN, with whom she had several children, of which General JACKSON IS ONE!!!”

Perhaps the best example was Alexander Hamilton attacking Thomas Jefferson for having sex with his slaves.  There was almost no worse insult at the time, and it turned out to be true - so it's overall a better comparison for attacks on Trump.

Seriously, is it your position that folks at that IQ scale level, or higher, should be excluded from voting?

Voter qualification measures have a long history. SCOTUS probably could find a way to make it possible to exclude the intelligentsia from imposing upon the common people.

Hi folks,

IMO most of us think that Trump lives in a world of his own.  This just supports that conclusion:  [ Pelosi ]  wouldn’t last five minutes with [ Trump ].

Donald Trump challenges 'cognitive mess' Nancy Pelosi to debate (thehill.com)

Nancy and I are the same age; she would mop the floor with him.

Jerry Baumchen

PS)  Pelosi . . . said Trump’s debate challenge “is just the former president’s usual projection of his own insanity.”
