"intellectually incestuous circle jerk" - how conservatives see science, modern medicine, and the study of history.  They prefer to be free and independent thinkers, unfettered by the chains of education, research, collaboration or review. 

If they see a video on their phone while they are pooping - why, that's "doing their own research", and they are now qualified to give advice on when to vaccinate your child!
