And it sure wasn't that the last two elections, so it's pretty slim. I'd say the country is reasonably split down the middle, with plenty of forces working hard to make sure that we either self-identify as to which side is our enemy (because that's more important than who our fellow human beings in given areas are), or at the very least who we can feel superior to. And if you can't find yourself working with a liberal on any cause, because whatever side they're on, they're wrong -- then congratulations, you're letting yourself be defined by somone else. Hi Joe, I was going by this article: Live updates: People gather across Oregon to protest Trump policies - oregonlive.com Yesterday is when I first read about the events. The writer did not include any links about how to find out more info. So, contacted him & he provided this link: Homepage | Indivisible I was at the event here in Beaverton. One speaker said that the event was put on by the Oregon Dem Party. I stayed for about 1/2 of it. Once the politicians got to speaking, and I found out that they were all reading from the same script, I left. At least I'll be in the headcount. While these events make some folks feel good, the real battlefield will be in the voting booths next year. All the signs in the world will not change what happens now that Trump and his GOP have both houses of Congress. IMO the other battlefield will be in our pocketbooks. We will have to put up the money to fund the campaigns to defeat the MAGA folks. Time and time again we saw the most vocal Republicans on here harp on about how they really do hate Trump but are going to vote for him anyway because he’ll be better than the fascist Democrats. Literally any Red (ok orange) head will do. You know I was thinking yesterday what it must be like for people who now have to face up to being gullible and ignorant enough to have voted for Trump because of the economy. I never even considered I’d need to imagine what things are like for people who still think he’s the messiah. I mean… how is that even possible? dogyks 9 #1516 April 7 It is said that a diplomat is someone who can tell you to go to hell in such a way that you look forward to the trip. Unfortunately, Trump is the exact opposite. Getting past the bombast is difficult, as is picking the gems from the dreck. When Ford was in office I concluded that a trade policy based on reciprocal tariffs was the way to go. Sell a variety of goods in Japan, for example, keep track of every tax and impediment between import and sale, and duplicate the process with what they sell here - no more, no less. Trump then took a policy that could have been pitched as fair and balanced and put it across as capricious and unhinged. Classic Trump. It is unfortunate that he is so truly unlikeable, and that anything or anyone associated with him is thus tainted. People I knew in Germany who survived on Marshall Plan rations would not touch peanut butter thereafter because of its use for starvation avoidance. I'm afraid that anything that could constitute sound policy may henceforth elicit the same kind of revulsion if associated with Trump.

But hey, Trump calls them reciprocal and that's good enough for you - no need to check anything below the surface. 15 minutes ago, dogyks said: Trump then took a policy that could have been pitched as fair and balanced and put it across as capricious and unhinged. Too bad things are far more complicated at the level of international relations than simple tit for tat by a simpleton will fix. Better might have been to adopt a tax policy that penalizes US companies for the jobs they create in other countries so as to sell their products at inflated profits here in the US. Apple really doesn't need to be a Trillion dollar company, for example, with gross margins of 47% to be an investable success.

Jerry, here, probably can make a close guess. I guess every administration puts its press secretaries in an odd position, but they are civil servants. Ultimately they're employed by the Federal government and by extension the taxpayer, not by the President, his campaign or his party. With only a small sized logical contortion you could argue that the press represent their employers and the President is the customer for their services.
