Hi folks,

We have been kicking this around for two weeks, now.

So, as of right now, do any of you think Joe Biden can defeat Donald Trump in Nov?

Jerry Baumchen

PS)  I'm very sure you know how I think.

Hi folks,

Why the silence; it is a simple question?

Yes he can win and the polls are dead even. But you're right to be concerned because the states are so high. As other democrats are concerned and at this point are holding back $90 million in donations.

MAGA anarchists are not concerned they have one eye glued to FOX and one on YouTube. Dreaming about the day when their dictator is sworn in.

But I could be wrong so don't read the NYT essay "Biden’s Path to Re-election Has All But Vanished" Which paints a much bleaker picture, sorry.

Nobody knew Obama until about 8 minutes before he was on the ticket - and his life was not as interesting as Moore. But, you guys keep going down this path without disrupting something.

Anyone that watched the keynote speech of the 2004 DNC knew who Obama was, and that he was someone very significant.  Obama's life was interesting.  Maybe Moore's has been, but I had never heard of him until this week, and still don't know anything at all about him.

I think the odds are low.  And now that his own party has turned on him, they are lower still.

Is loyalty more important than competence?

My grandfather took on the management of an old age home when he was in his early 60’s. He said one of the most difficult things he had to do was take car keys away from people who were no longer capable of driving safely and seeing how it destroyed them. He vowed to stop driving at a certain age (don’t remember if it was 70 or 75) and he kept his word.

That’s how I see Biden. A genuine, hardworking man who has been successful. But it looks like he’s losing his ability to keep up. In an interesting twist of timing though, one of the units of my psych degree is on disorders of aging and cognitive decline.

Morning, Jerry.

Before the debate; I had posted that I thought there was a growing chance that Biden would win with the number of Rs against Trump increasing. Now, I'm not so sure. Not because of - for Trump, because of the DNC not for Biden. IMO, if the DNC doesn't shift 90 degrees out of this rip ride, they'll never get back to shore.

If diversity is so irrelevant, why do Vice Presidents tend to represent demographics that the President doesn't (e.g. states he wants to appeal to). Or is it only states that matter, and not things like economic class, and other things that impact how people see and treat one?

I said diversity is our greatest strength look at what a great job the WH press secretary is doing. Minority, immigrant and gay!

Hi Keith,

Last nite I was thinking about Biden's presser; where he talked about all the primaries that he had won.

If we [ all of us ] knew then what we know now, I doubt he would have won them like he did.

PS)  I know that he is a long-time politician; but, when asked a question about his health, he just talks about what he has accomplished in last 3 1/2 yrs.  IMO after the debate, that is not going to cut it.

Hi Nigel,

I had to take away the car keys from my mother when she was in her 80's.  That was not fun for her or me.

Are you really thinking that Trump getting a piercing, along with the D's choosing Rip Van Winkle, will give Trump the election? His rabid base can't vote twice in large numbers and we already suspected a huge turnout there. I doubt women will feel sorry enough to accept the yoke Most issues a very polarizing issues and there is still a lot of time, really.

The primary factor IMO is the difference between the two parties.

Biden has a bad debate.  Democrats:
"He's too old"
"He can't win"
"He should step aside"
"The party should nominate someone else"
"Think about how bad he will be in another 4 years"

Trump announces he will "terminate" the Constitution:
"That's not what he said"
"Well you have to take it in context"
"He means temporarily to own the libs"
"That's a strong leader for you"
"TRUMP 2024!"

There's that, I grant you. Maybe he'll kill it in debate #2. Me, I'm hoping Merchan puts him it the calaboose for some time in September.

I no longer believe that Biden can win the election, Trump is immune to everything, including any constitutional or law/order process.  And whether we like it or not, he is going to get 3-4% more for the sympathy vote.  The Democrats will not (no should they) change leadership in the middle of a crisis like an assassination attempt and the country is thus doomed.

The only hope is that Trump does not get the House and Senate, which would make him mostly a lame duck,. but he still gets to reap end-of-world stuff on the agencies and fire everyone, replacing them with any MAGA moron that does what he says for them to do.

Planning my exit strategy after November.  To be executed after the inauguration, who knows, maybe someone else takes him out before then or there is a massive cardiac event.

Both sides are asking to tamp down the rhetoric but with the RNC starting today, I am going to give that about until Tuesday afternoon for that to all go out the window.

correction, both sides are actually talking about how old Biden is and that he cannot win and that he should step aside.  No one is talking about the convicted felon.  Reason number 637 why the country is fucked.

Putin and China win.

Granted the Trump getting shot factor has significantly changed things since I had made that post. But I disagree strongly that Trump would win as a result of not backing Biden.

It’s amazing how effective strong decisive leadership is, and if the dems including Biden backed and promoted someone I think they stood a better chance than Biden. For the next couple of weeks Trump owns the news cycle as a result of the shooting. The dems could come out hard and strong and turn the situation around.

For starters they could focus on former Trump hater and now VP candidate Vance. I mean seriously, was Palin unavailable? Vance once called Trump "Americas Hitler", he's only 39 years old, a proud hillbilly, and a professional bootlicker. I only hope he goes toe to toe with Harris. Oh, but we'll be all nicey nice again.

What about VP Harris. We all know diversity is our greatest strength and Harris checks all the boxes. Female, Black, Asian…she is a guaranteed winner.

America is not electing a woman (yet).  We elected a black man before we elected a woman.  Christian hierarchy mostly.  It cannot happen in a country where even the left has evangelical christians that think women should be in the kitchen

Having said that, if she suddenly replaced Biden on the ticket, I think the vast majority of democrats and democrat leaning folks would fall in line.  Trouble is the unknown middle and of course the extreme right would get louder with the nigger-yelling.  that might actually work in favor of the democrats, who knows.  such a strange dynamic given the Proud Boys, the KKK, the Oath Keepers and the exclusively white evangelical christians.

The Lincoln Project should have titled its latest professional bootlicker instead of JD VP Both you and the Project nailed it. Is it possible for Vance to be further right than Trump. Or is it all just bootlicking and teabagging by Vance?

Hi Joe,

Just another opportunist; as if, they are not all the same.

IMO JDV does not help Trump in the election.  Nor did Harris in 2020; oh OK, maybe just a little bit.

As I continue to say, this election will be decided by those 'undecided' voters in only a handful of states.

Not by the voters in Oregon; that means you & me.

I will still vote, as it is very important to me, but Oregon is a TrueBlue state.  As are Washington & California.

Now, let's get back to Who Will Replace Biden?

Only Biden can replace Biden and there are no signs of that happening.
