JerryBaumchen 1,434 #177 July 5, 2024 Hi folks, I do not need the WSJ to tell me this: Mr. Biden’s best bet for survival, bizarrely, is to keep warning Democrats that his withdrawal will simply force them to confront other notable mistakes—crowning a barely qualified and unpopular vice president Opinion | About the Democratic Panic (msn.com) IMO that is a very poor argument. IMO she is not the heir apparent; far too many others more qualified. Jerry Baumchen

If Biden were to resign as POTUS she would get the job for the remainder of his term. If he drops out as a contender for the nomination then she is still his VP, but that is all she is. She was his choice and she goes down with him when he drops out.

Any replacement needs to deal with the Biden/Harris war chest. That is, they'll need a shit bag of money, like hundreds of millions if it's a cat and dog fight, unless Harris is brought into the solution from the start. That is and has been my concern with the Joe needs to go argument. Yes, he needs to go on the merits. But the thing is more complicated that just that.

brenthutch 444 #182 July 5, 2024 (edited) It’s funny to watch all of the folks who defend Biden and Harris in the past (“He just has a stutter” and “She is an accomplished and successful attorney/ DA/Senator”) now soiling their panties when they finally wake up and see what has been right in front of their faces for years. That said IT IS GOING TO BE OK! We survived one Trump term, we will survive another. The administrative state might take a bit of a haircut but it was getting shaggy and needed one anyway. If you think you survived one Trump term you’re dreaming. The damage and fallout from Trump on the justice system and rule of law continues every day. A second term will be significantly worse, King Trump will probably crown Don Junior to continue the royal legacy.

Regulations on dumping pollution, keeping bankers from making foolish loans to deadbeat friends, corruption of the state and anti-competitive behavior. None of that is necessary in a dictatorship after all, it works so well in Russia and China.

Sorry Phil, but when the state requires a boat captain to pay the salary of a bureaucrat to supervise him, and when mud puddles fall under the jurisdiction of the EPA, things have gone to far. Commercial boat captains don't need licenses or oversight. Wetlands should be all paved over or sold to unsuspecting homeowners. Got it.
