Jenny R. 0 #1 Posted July 5, 2024 I'm planning to get a new container soon. Which AAD should I get? I have had both in the past, but don't know what the general thought is on one vs. the other.

airnutt 11 #6 July 6, 2024 I like them both, cypres my choice, track record and customer service is better than others
kleggo 145 #7 July 8, 2024 i would buy a CYPRES, a cypress won't do you much good. Even though it took 4 months to have it returned post service!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CYPRES is an acronym for Cybernetic Parachute Release System. It refers to a specific make and model of an automatic activation device (AAD), a device that automatically activates a parachute (typically as a reserve system for a skydiver) under certain circumstances. But a vigil is better than no AAD

Greekos 6 #10 July 15, 2024 Both are good, Cypress are a bit more expensive the cables are a little less protected than the vigil, but are the first modern aad and have sold the most units and had the most saves. Vigils are a bit more affordable requiring less services and are in service for 20 years early on they had few service bulletins, i believe the cost difference between the two is the cypress will cost an extra $50 a year. Vigils also take up a bit more space than the Cypress. I have owned both

I agree as a rigger that I do find the m2 and Cypres are more user friendly in the smaller rigs but don't hesitate to pack any of the brands. After the Argus debacle with the pipe cutter I lean towards the Axe blade of the Cypres and the later model m2 multi. Cost wise the difference in ownership of all three should not be such an impost for anyone that spends the money on our sport I would have thought but ymmv - maybe cut back a beer or two a week and you are good to go.
