I'm sure that Musk's political activism has cost him Tesla sales already.

Well, there was a time I would have loved to have a Tesla.

Now there is no way in hell I will ever be a customer of any company Musk controls.

I got an EV last year.
While looking, I considered Tesla a bit.

For my budget, a Tesla would have had to be older and/or more miles than I was looking for.

Plus the fact that Elmo is a raving idiot.

Ended up with a Chevy Bolt and couldn't be happier.

I've been hearing good things about the Hyundai IONIQ series, but I haven't dug into the topic in depth.

I have a Kia Niro (PHEV, but still), and it’s been solid as a rock so far. A friend who owns an Ioniq really likes it, too. And she’s 92, so it’s by no means impossible to adapt to.

I've heard some good things about the Ioniq.

Nothing that fit me (price, age mileage) was available when I was looking.

And there's not any real surprise that a 92 year old could adapt to an EV.

It's a different operating system.
It requires a different mindset.
It has advantages and disadvantages (note: the disadvantages are NOWHERE NEAR as bad as the Luddites would have you believe).

For some people, it doesn't work.

For others (including me) it's an amazingly efficient and cost-effective choice.
From a 'cost per mile' perspective, my Bolt is cheaper to operate than my motorcycle.

You can teach 'an old dog new tricks' (Mythbusters proved it).

The problem is that you can't always teach a stupid or stubborn dog new tricks.

We have a couple folks on here who demonstrate that VERY clearly.

I don't know if they sell it in the US but, if they do, look at the 2024 Kona EV range. Unlike most EVs that are adapted from ICE models, the Kona range was specifically designed as an EV first and then adapted to suit Hybrid and ICE engines. It also has an across the range, as standard, heat pump that helps preserve battery range in cold weather.

My Kia Niro is the Hyundai Kona in a Kia suit. A pure EV didn't suit my needs when I needed a car (two long, regular, trips), but of my 17000 miles, 12000 of them are done on electric power. And since electric power is less than gasoline even when it comes from the utility, that's a win in my book.

As far as I know, the only EV/PHEV/BEV I know of that started from a gas car chassis and was used with minor modifications was the original Prius.  It used a modified Toyota Echo body.  Since then, each chassis has been custom made for the specific EV design, with moderate to significant changes even to similar vehicles (i.e. Prius HEV vs Prius Prime PHEV.)

Well, there was the first Tesla, the Lotus Elise based roadster.
