How quickly can you pack?

Recommended Posts

Depends on the canopy, but normally 5-10 minutes now. Student rigs take me longer, so do 'bitch' rigs where people have incorrectly sized/mismatched setups.

My favourite sizes to pack are 100-150 square foot. Smaller and its like folding dolls clothing, larger is just more...

I don't like being under pressure though. I want to check things over for wear, untwist brakes etc. I'll skip this stuff if I've packed the rig earlier in the day.

7-10 minutes. Depends on the bungys and the rig setup. My personal one, I have done in about 4min, trash style. Others, where they go over 200 size, about 15min, and then I so love my 150 again.
You have the right to your opinion, and I have the right to tell you how Fu***** stupid it is.

I am slow still, flat packing a 260 Navigator but I feel fortunate to be at a DZ that strongly encourages learning to pack and I have a Master Rigger teaching how to do it right while teaching me the tricks to become more efficient. I have already jumped my own pack job and got a good opening. I intend to do my own packing throughout my entire career or until there is no more to learn about my rig and they start making perfect parachutes. My thanks go out to all who teach us newbies this essential skill and put up with our fumbles and bumbles.

You will also find packing other's gear teaches you a lot more........ Smaller gear, bigger, Crew gear etc.

Tom Sawyer is an American fictional character who when made to paint a fence as punishment managed to convince others that painting was so much fun that they painted the fence for him. I will have to become much much faster and more skilled before I would be volunteering to pack other's gear and even then it seems unlikely although I may make a sign that says" Will pack for coaching":)
