lippy 918 #1 Posted November 1, 2024 John Oliver's got a history of using HBO's significant resources to do ridiculous things on Last Week Tonight. This week's episode focused on immigration, and the second half of the show was mainly about Lee Greenwood and his 'God Bless the USA' song. I remember when they played it during my Naturalization Ceremony and I thought it was odd, as I had first known the 'God Bless Canada' version. Oliver pulled one of his classic ridiculous/hilarious stunts to offer up an alternative to Lee Greenwood's anthem for future Naturalization ceremonies, and it's absofuckinglutely brilliant. The whole 18 minutes is worth a watch, but skip to 14:05 for just the song.
