Got yelled at by a Trump supporter today

Recommended Posts

I had just finished giving blood and was sitting in the "recovery area" drinking a Pepsi when a guy came in to talk to the woman at the desk.  She's an older woman (70?) who has been there for as long as I've been going there, at least 20 years.  Conversation:

Guy: Do people donate plasma here?
Woman: Yes, we do whole blood, plasma, platelets and red blood cell donations here.
Guy: Do you pay people for their plasma?
Woman: This is a donation-only center so no, we don't pay people here.  But downtown there is . . . .
Guy: Taking something without paying for it is stealing.  So you steal people's plasma?
Woman: Uh - OK - I'm not going to talk to you any more.
Guy: That's stealing!  That's stealing!  How dare you steal people's plasma!  That's what's wrong with America, people stealing!

At that point I laughed, because the idea that "what's wrong with America" is that people donate blood without expecting payment was pretty funny.  Mistake on my part.

Guy: Oh you think that's funny do you?  Stealing people's blood is funny?  They're poisoning the blood and they're stealing the blood, and all you can do is laugh?
Me: Well, it is . . .
Guy: You'll be sorry!  You'll all be sorry come next week!  You'll be sorry!

With that he stormed out.

The woman with Down syndrome who was volunteering in the canteen was super upset by the whole thing.  Another worker said "you wanna call the security guy?"  The older woman said "yeah, call Don at the rental office and he'll know how to get in touch with security, in case he comes back."

He didn't, fortunately.

In Canada it is still illegal to buy or sell whole blood. But just in the last few years plasma selling is now a thing in some provinces. But shamefully enough, the majority of plasma products used in Canada are imported from....you guessed it....the good old USA.

Hi Ken,

Well, you are the country that we trade with the most.

I would think that it is a very long list.

Jerry Baumchen

PS)  I have been from BC to Quebec, and a lot of places in between, because of purchasing contracts with Canadian companies; many times, in fact.

I paid for skydives in the early 70's partly by selling plasma.   Can't be giving that stuff away like I did whole blood.

Of course this dovetails right into the Orange Fellators transactional approach to everything; Nothing can ever be done because it is right, moral, or helps others; Every possible action must be approached with: "What's in it for me?"
