I don’t think I can take hearing ‘we are the greatest democracy and leader of the free world’ any more. 

I hope that as the US drifts towards being a theocracy with a corrupt ruling class, that the rest of the world can wean itself off the US and limit the damage to ourselves.

Trump did not hide his racism, sexism, bigotry,vulgarity and cruelty.   Americans voted for him because of those qualities, not despite them.

It still doesn't entitle you to your own facts.  Trump is a proven:  Liar, fraud, sexual predator, thief.  Those are all facts that have been proven in courts  under due process of law.  He is also an adulterer, and the ONLY reason he will get away with stealing documents belonging to the nation is that his election enables him to shut down the trial.

There’s a lot to process. 

Over the past 25 years we’ve seen so many major events and changes. From 9/11 through the GFC and Covid. 

The election of Trump is/was quite likely fuelled by fear and uncertainty, for many of those who voted for him. At the same time, I think for the vast majority of the world his election brings on fear, anxiety and uncertainty of what is to come.

It’s so easy to give into fear and obsess over what if’s. I’ve got a child in the military, and honestly I was already not very happy that he is going to see active conflict. Now I fear that it could be so much worse, because I don’t see Trump as a peace maker. 

There are posters here that are knowledgeable about history (Jakee, Billvon, Kallend to name a few) and the parallels with the history of facism and the rise of the nazies is scary. 

A large part of me wants to just switch off to it all and get on with life in blissful ignorance. I’m very lucky, I live in a place with no geopolitical significance and financially I have nothing to worry about. 

Ultimately I believe the right thing to do is to connect with those around us and do our best to rebuild a sense of community and support in challenging times.

Trump has the mandate of the people. 

Having seen first hand in Zimbabwe how Mugabe manipulated the masses through a combination of empty promises that appealed to the masses and the threat of violence, I do believe that Trump committed similar crimes. For months we have heard the threat of election violence if Trump lost, and I am certain that a percentage of the population voted for him to avoid that possibility. 

The only thing that I can think of that could have been done differently would have been for Biden to exercise the powers that the Supreme Court gave a sitting President and for him to have squashed Trump’s treasonous behaviour outside of the civil court system. I don’t know Military law, but as ex Commander in Chief maybe the documents case should have been treated as a military tribunal/prosecution and been prosecuted promptly and harshly.

Good advice for everyone. The dice are cast and all the worrying about future generations, or any oppressed group in this generation, is a waste of time and energy. The only useful thing to do is work to secure additional resources to help protect your kids and grandkids (if you have them) to give them the options and safety only money can buy. Otherwise get used to a lot more discrimination, a lot more Jesus, and a lot less giving a crap. It might be a also good time to invest in blue state trailer parks for when the light bulb comes on for the winners.

Perhaps a consolation might be the fact that this pos is probably not long for the world, due to his age, and it might not be too long before he is festering underground. He won't be able to dodge the Reaper when the time comes. And perhaps karma will come and bring him great suffering before he karks it for good. And it will be richly deserved.

No, Brent, that's not going to happen. It might be that the government will protect bigots instead of the weaker, but that's what happened during the whole Jim Crow era as well. 

Acknowledging something respects it, it doesn't bring it into existence.

And anyway, it's now up to the states, where it belongs, like everything else having to do with human rights, right?
