It may be popular, but it is very easy to take it too far and all indications are that is what will happen. Mass deportations are not going to happen because it is both too hard and too expensive to accomplish. But hundreds of thousands and possibly millions are going to be terrorized anyway for no good reason. It will make some people feel good. In a similar vein there will be tariffs because that's easy. Will they "work"? You know they won't bring jobs to America, but they will start a trade war. They will cause price increases and the treasury can probably use the tax revenue. I wonder how long till US citizens are required to show proof of vaccinations or be quarantined in order to enter Europe? Revolution without a cause is a phrase that comes to mind.
