What I said above:

the pipeline goes something like this: tweet/reddit post -> minor blog or podcast "some people are saying" -> blog with more reach reports on "blog x reported today that people are saying" -> legacy media outlet reports it as factual. Before these things would be fact checked, today in the race to be relevant that's impossible.

Paraphrased: the only thing stopping a bad guy with a propaganda is a good guy with a propaganda.

I haven't followed her lately but AOC used to be exceptional at it.

You didn’t answer me at all.

Trump and Vance repeatedly told that lie (you can watch them say it and don’t need to rely on 3rd party reporting).

How do you rationalise accepting Trump and Vance being blatant liars?

I'm not sure why you think an mRNA vaccine is not a vaccine but there is a lot of evidence that it functions as one. I know you will carry your personal anger and resentment over the extreme pressure put on you and others to make the sacrifice of taking it for the common good despite your beliefs to the grave with you. I'm not even going to try to have that argument again. But the fact is that it is an effective measure that attenuated the epidemic and allowed society to get close to normalcy far faster and with far less death than otherwise. Without it we would be in a far worse place right now.

Well without it Trump might not have won the popular vote ;)

Whatever happened to the Trump family voting machines?

What did Trump mean when he said He didn't need the votes because he already has them?

Why did he say we would never have to vote again?

Seems a lot on the web think the machines were hacked. Reddit is quite the rabbit hole lately.

I'll tell you if you tell me at least one lie Kamala told that you regret and wish she hadn't.

Very big of you. Honestly, I am sure Kamala has lied, but I don’t know of any specific ones and certainly none that inflamed hatred against a community to the point that their safety was compromised.

Since I can’t off hand think of a lie, it’s ok you can safely avoid having to explain your position. Cognitive dissonance is generally rather uncomfortable and best ignored.

Have you ever heard of influenza vaccine? Is it a vaccine?

I don't know all the specifics of the flu vaccine, however, to my understanding that most of the problems with it come from trying to guess the strain.

It's my understanding they grow a virus and use the virus to inoculate the person which hopefully if the strain is correct. Confers immunity. So yes, it is an actual vaccine.

That also has never been true, is not true and will never be true . . .

You can take that up with GWB's administration.  It's what they believed.  And that idea that if you Big Lie enough it becomes real has permeated the far right ever since.

They certainly aren't vaccines.

You claim that liberals are divorced from reality and then you say things like that?  You're proving my point here.

Quote

"therapeutic with a limited window of efficacy and terrible side effect . . . ." etc etc.

Vaccines are "fake" infections that present pathogen antigens to your immune system.  The immune system then responds to the antigens, thus "training" your immune system to react quickly to pathogens in the future.  There are several classes of vaccines:

- Live similar pathogens.  The first smallpox vaccine was actually a cowpox infection, but it was close enough to generate an immune response that covered smallpox.  These aren't used any more, but may be returning in the form of recombinant vector vaccines - engineered viruses that have exactly the antigens you need.

- Weakened pathogens.  These are the actual bacteria/viruses but damaged so they cannot make you very sick.  Polio was an example here; they have since switched to an antigen-only type.

- Antigen-only vaccines.  These are just the antigens themselves.  One way to get them is to denature a virus/bacteria (i.e. kill it) and inject the "debris."  The debris will contain the antigens.  Another way to get them is to filter out everything but the antigens and then inject them.  A third way is an mRNA vaccine that stimulates your own body to produce the antigens.

This is the opposite of a treatment or a therapeutic.  A treatment is like an antiviral - you take it AFTER you get sick and it interferes with viral reproduction.  Vaccines have to be taken BEFORE you get sick, because they do nothing to treat your disease.  They only train your immune system.

I would STRONGLY recommend you learn your medical science from a reputable source rather than a red-pill podcaster.

Cognitive dissonance would be if I told you Trump in Vance were totally perfect and never told a lie and also that they told a lie. That is not what I told you. I am acknowledging that your Haitian immigrant dog cat may be a lie and also that they are not perfect.

What made you think it was cognitive dissonance?

I’ve seen a bit of it. I think it’s far fetched, but at the same time the people who are most vocal about cheating are often the cheaters…

As I was previously mocked for, I have a 4.0 in biochemistry and a degree in chemistry. Grade inflation I guess.

The fact that trust in general vaccine use has fallen measurably proves it should not have been called a vaccine.

You are equating effectiveness to definition.  The COVID vaccine is provably effective in reducing infection, serious illness and death.  It is FAR more effective than the TB vaccine, for example.  And it's even more effective than the whooping cough vaccine, because the whooping cough pathogen (a bacteria) has mutated with time.  Just like COVID has.

Are you going to redefine both of those as "not vaccines" now?  Or did the whooping cough vaccine only become "not a vaccine" when it became less effective?

Cognitive dissonance is thinking you can't trust anything the media says because it;s just propaganda from Reddit memes, you also can't trust anything Trump and Vance say for the same reason, but that you're also sure you made the right decision and Trump and Vance are the right guys to do what you want done because you know what they're going to do.

I am not sure I made the right decision. The next 4 years will tell me whether I made the right decision. I can tell you why I made the decision right now in 2024.

It is not ‘may be a lie’ it is a proven lie that was known to be false. Vance in his own words said “if I have to make up stories to get people to pay attention…”

My point about cognitive dissonance is that you are very strongly opinionated about Harris, the left and the media being dishonest - to the point you justify it as a reason for supporting Trump. Quite likely the most dishonest person to have ever served in politics. Reconciling those positions is close to the text book example of dissonance.

To be clear on the media question, I think the right-wing media is just as terrible as the left-wing media.  All of it is trash. Absolute garbage. When I say all here I mean 97% of it.

Also, I'm not sure. I said I had a strong opinion about Harris.  She was part of the administration that made decisions which caused me to vote for Trump. I'm not sure. I have a very strong opinion of her as a person.

For about 2 months after you get the second shot.

"The ZOE COVID study reported waning of effectiveness of mRNA (Pfizer-BioNTech BNT162b2 and Moderna mRNA 1273) and vector-based (Oxford-AstraZaneca COVID-19) vaccines at around 5 months after administration of two primary doses in community settings7. The protection provided by Pfizer vaccine was 91.6% after one month, decreasing to 82% after 5 months; effectiveness of Moderna reduced from 94% to 84% and that of AstraZeneca vaccine declined from 83% to 75.7% at 5 months. "

Again, use that education you have and stop getting all your information from right wing agenda-driven podcasters.

half-life of VE against symptomatic infection was estimated to be 87 days (95% CI, 67-129 days) for Omicron compared with 316 days (95% CI, 240-470 days) for Delta. Similar waning rates of VE were found for different age segments of the population.
