Too many in the generations after us don't have the ability to see down the street much less around the corner and will suffer. They won't see it but they need to get off their lazy, entitled asses and work overtime, second jobs, gig jobs, and anything that can lower their debt and improve their situations. $6-7 dollar coffees, new cars, designer clothes and even state college over community college needs to be cast aside. They need to study the work ethic of the boomer generation and get with it while the getting is still good. Hi Joe, Now, sir; you are talking blasphemy. The only debt that I have ever had was the two houses that I financed. Not one car payment, ever. It is not easy; but, like not borrowing money to get a college degree, it can be accomplished. Turns out our hoped for first time voters were simply too ill-informed and/or dumb to make a decision in their favor. Our vaunted land of immigrants is now a real laughing matter as so many chose to vote for petty self interests and political causes in other countries and not to sustain the democracy that sustains them now. Many young women voted for Trump as did young men; whom as a group, sanity suggests, should be more concerned about abortion rights than any other cohort. 12% of the LGBTQ community voted Trump? Seriously? Of course the list goes on and the truly sad thing is that most have already gone back to their normal tuned out, picture scrolling, selfie taking selves and are free from being appalled at little things like Gaetz for AG or Trumps plan to purge our officer corps ala Stalin. The reality seems to be that I can add fixing American Democracy to finding life in our solar system: things that won't happen because we made terrible choices. Most all in this forum understand the issues. For the average voter with a grade 12 and possibly some trade education. They don't subscribe to newspapers or really understand complicated issues like tariffs. For many its the price of gas and butter. If they watch FOX they are a part of the 34% that are MAGA hard liners. But yeah the ranking of priorities in voting decision making is fu%ked up. Look at the positive side of things. Its only two years to midterms.

He has also taken maverick positions on reducing FBI surveillance powers, cutting certain arms supplies to Saudi Arabia and legalising marijuana. Those are all laudable goals if he is sincere in pursuing them. There are other people available who could also take the Justice Department in that direction but have better records and abilities. It isn't necessary to make Gaetz the AG except to make a statement. And to get him out of congress. Most likely he will be a sacrificial lamb and never become AG. Which is better than he deserves. He has his fingers in a lot of Central American pies. He has a bank in Belize and also a Marriott development in San Pedro. He usually sells to the wealthy. JerryBaumchen 1,362 #45 November 16, 2024 (edited) Hi folks, Trump/Musk have made statements about reducing the number of federal gov't employees by 75%. I spent 34 yrs working for the federal gov't. I worked for one agency for 30 yrs. I often said that if we could reduce the workforce by a chosen 30%, we could be +100% more efficient. I am not opposed to some reduction. 1) You own a home in Florida. A hurricane comes along and wipes you and all of your neighbors out; your house is flattened. FEMA comes in to help. However, they cannot do the job because they are now staffed at 25% of the necessary work-force. Aren't you glad that you voted for Trump? 2) You have built a nice retirement home out in the boonies. This where your wife & you have chosen to spend your golden yrs. A wild-fire comes along on the adjacent federally-owned land. It is closing in on your house. In comes the federal forest-fire fighters. However, they are staffed at 25% of the necessary work-force. Your house is lost. Aren't you glad that you voted for Trump? 3) You are a DZO and your airplane is at 13,000 ft with a full load of tandem students. The pilot keys the mike to contact ATC. No one answers. He tries again, same no result. The pilot has to land with his full load of customers. Aren't you glad that you voted for Trump? And, that is just a beginning. wmw999 2,444 #50 November 16, 2024 Some places/agencies/whatever need to be manned for, if not worst-case scenarios, at least bad-case scenarios. Like police, fire, military, whether national or local. That readiness costs money. So does fixing a leaky roof, even though it never leaks on the days you can fix it.
