Agree and I offered nothing but the same whenever I participated. I have no desire to do it again but I have 2 nephews that each just got their A license so I have to ask, if the site goes away, is there any way to archive the incident and S+T forums so they are still available to view? Institutional knowledge is a terrible thing to waste. I want it to remain available to them as it was to me, and I would contribute to that.

I ask you from an honest place as someone hoping to corral investors. Help me to understand better my headwinds: how many jumps have you made in the last year and in the last 5 years?

0 and 0. I used to skydive and could again if I were so inclined, although I’d probably eliminate the fossil fuel thing and just move on to paragliding because it’s literally right out my back door. I usually spend my free time in the woods these days, trying to see whatever I can before it all burns up. I wouldn’t have gotten involved in SC but I was bored during Covid shutdown. I decided to bail when I’d had enough of the pelosi hammer thread. I think arguing is one of the silliest things we use the internet for and I’m as guilty as anyone. That said, I still lurk here for the links that some of you provide. There’s some good information there. Sure, I’d probably pay for membership to maintain that.

A lot of this is why I mentioned USPA in the other thread. They already host and maintain a website, would it be that hard/costly for them to run this one?

I was thinking similar, or one of the big gear stores (like Chutingstar)

I know!  Maybe Trump will create a department of obscure and unimportant blogs to benefit people who don't want to pay for their muses.

Interesting thoughts here. I only stick my head in SC once in a while to see if it's still the same echo chamber, but this thread I think is the best I've seen. Dropzone.com has been the best resource for skydivers-especially incidents and safety. I know it helped me over the years with a lot-particulary with deciding to continue skydiving after watching a friend go in-I still jump now though I hire a packer most times now since I have a bit of metal in me.  Incredible resource in these forums, even though it could get frustrating to repeatedly lecture the young want to downsize jumpers on slowing down-Ron did start to get blunt back then! His bounce bingo suggestions were priceless. I still peruse incidents/safety and a few others and post once in a while-had to let everyone know the Perris jet was flying again! I think the info contained in this site is invaluable and any effort to save it is commendable. Has anyone talked to USPA about that idea that was thrown out? Just seems that would be a good direction to go for the info to be easily found for everyone. And forums are not dead-I am on several auto forums (corvette and thirdgen.org) that are still very active-so it is curious that it's slowed so much here-I'm at a loss as to why.

I think the number of skydivers was small enough that as forum use slowed with options of FB groups it dipped below a critical number and ceased being relevant.  Skydiving has a lot of turn-over, many people just stay in for a year or two and that makes the site having to keep pulling in new people, but those new jumpers got re-directed to those local FB groups (Every DZ I know has one) for the socializing aspect.

Without the social traffic, there wasn't enough technical discussions happening to keep interest up for noobs and casuals.

The fact the site got old didn't help (I know, I know you hated the re-design but I appreciated the fact we could embed pics and vids).

The rest of the site may be fine, but Speaker’s Corner is a giant shit sandwich monopolized and controlled by obnoxious radical leftists who protect each other. The sooner it dies, the better. Pay for it? Hilarious! This is the MSNBC of the online skydiving world.

And yet you come here to eat that shit sandwich.

Many republicans live a life in the closet. It is ok, we are a welcoming bunch. You don't have to keep pretending.

Well, if OAN, Blaze and the like can exist, why not this also?

So looks like the site will be gone for good at the end of December - so we have one last hurrah.

Personally I want to thank Andrea and Wendy for helping to moderate this forum.  It's always been an odd little appendix on a really useful website, and I've made friends here, had a few thought provoking arguments, and had a lot of fun watching other arguments progress (or, in many cases, devolve.)  Thanks everyone.

Mmmmmm now that a purchase price is better defined! ...I'm surprised that a DZ, a manufacturer, or a major retailer hasn't bought it. IMO 2-3 active individuals are needed in the skydiving section to drive engagement. Newbies and those debating coming back need gear and not every DZ is active enough to have active FB groups.
