Life after Speakers Corner

Recommended Posts

With the knowledge we are losing SC I looked into low cost/free ways that the banter could continue.

I’ve setup a subreddit  https://www.reddit.com/r/BeyondDropzone/s/EVhnSJsPC6

I don’t want to have to moderate a public forum so I set it up as invite only. Although all  speakers corner posters and lurkers are welcome.

You can request to join by emailing the moderators. Alternatively I’ve setup a reddit username dznigel99 and you can message me and happy to add you.

Same here.

"To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:  A time to be born, and a time to die."

How profound to quote another, Professor. Me, I'll wait until I'm dead, actually, before giving up. I say let's fund BillVon to make our continuance happen. I will match Ken, Phil and Skydekker for a thousand each for the cause, so 6 grand. Anyone else with a will?

I suppose I shoulld have provided the citation for those who weren't forced to study the bible twice a week for 12 years?

I thought everyone knew Ecclesiastes 3, 1-2

I always liked Ecclesiastes 12, 1-8 too.

Totally Atheist, which I find awful.

Personally I've never been threatened with eternal torture by an atheist, nor have they knocked on my door or tried to hand me a "free" book in an airport. I like that bit.

I meant awful as in the original sense, full of awe.

Hi Mark,

And, not one of them* has ever tried to change my mind on these types of issues.

What does it mean to be a “devout” atheist?

Someone whose deep understanding of religion results in the conclusion that facts don't support the underlying mythology.

My wife just got a tour of the Mormon Tabernacle complex and was most impressed by the accomplishments of the Church and the quality of life of its adherents.

This does not change the fact that the the Book of Mormon has less veracity than your average comic book.

The word devout has a religious connotation. That’s an interesting word to pair with atheist. It’s got nothing to do with understanding. It has to do with your adherence to a religion of some sort. In his case, atheism, which he might say is non-religious. It’s an oxymoron.

Do you seriously not know that Pete Seeger wrote it for The Byrds?

There is the stray chance it's a bit facetious.

I am both an atheist and an ordained minister (for real).
