NWFlyer 2 #1 May 24, 2013 Nice video from Skydive Spaceland (starring RoryJ) on door usage, door etiquette, door safety. This would be a nice tool for a lot of DZs with this type of roll-up door to show their newer jumpers (and refresh the "experienced" folk who "forget" some of this). https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=CxYc1M44Dxk"There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. JohnMitchell 16 #5 May 25, 2013 And a damn cool shirt. I got a few of dem. And nice video. I noticed they didn't cover "how to kick the door right off the damn skyvan." That's a different video, I think.
milehigheric 0 #6 May 25, 2013 Is it common practice to ride with the door open with 'loose' tandems in the US? The video seems to imply this?
diablopilot 2 #7 May 25, 2013 The video states that people with parachutes should remover their seat belts. As per the USPA IRM, Spaceland uses the policy of "tandems students shall be restrained through the use of seat belts or attachment to the instructors harness at all times."---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Spaceland does adhere to this policy and I encourage it as well, but who ever came up with the wording is a dork :) DJ Marvin AFF I/E, Coach/E, USPA/UPT Tandem I/E http://www.theratingscenter.com

kallend 2,026 #10 May 25, 2013 I didn't see anything about what to do when the green light comes on. Like NOT to shout "Green Light Green Light GO GO GO..." from the front of the plane.... Of course not; everyone is supposed to shout "DOOR" in unison, on a C major 7 harmony.Skydiving is serious business

lanceav8r 0 #14 May 26, 2013 Notice that the JM correctly says to not open the door below 1,500'. The sign in the airplane says 1,000'. The difference is important. when opening the door of an aircraft during flight and while in the activation zone (below 500 m or 1.640 ft), it should be verified if there are any Vigils on board set in Student Mode. Certain aircrafts can create a pressure spike that can activate a Vigil AAD when it’s set in Student Mode.

RoryJ 0 #16 June 9, 2013 Glad everyone likes the video. I got sick of watching noobz constantly almost break the door, figured everyone could benefit. And it looks like we might have to have a convention and offer moustache rides for everyone not lucky enough to have a fuzzy tickler on the upper lip. Not again! Certain aircrafts can create a pressure spike that can activate a Vigil AAD when it’s set in Student Mode. pretty simple: 1 - don't open the door (or crack it enough for a pilot chute to accidentally slip under) until you're at an altitude comfy for a main deployment - regardless of what's printed on the back of the plane. 2 - If you bother to open it, then open it all the way. Again, if something sneaks out, you'd rather be pulled out an open door instead of forced through a mostly closed door to the rest of us - shush! they can see the green light just fine ...
