I grew up poor, in a single mother household most of my younger life.

Just not the inner city neighborhoods that lack any semblance of hope for a better life.

Could it be because there aren't enough opportunities for people in rural America, and at least in a city your social network is physically closer? Poor people are generally far more dependent on their social network.

I learned long ago that there were going to be no hand outs to me, so I stopped that mind set and moved on to be productive.

We have too many people to have them all be rural without some huge, way-over-the-top, mandate. What do you propose doing with all those people?

Increase the hell out of taxes so that the rich in those areas pay their fair share - 75% ought to do.  Make the affluent pay for the fix of the problem they are supposedly the cause of.  Reduce the size of governance, while increasing the police force temporarily. Decrease the social programs that just give away without making the people earn anything.  Make people earn their keep, be it in some way that benefits the community, or individuals that will allow them to.

Amazingly a few experts have even taught me that all my radio engineering theory is wrong and that a 47uF electrolytic capacitor is actually a secret 5G antenna.
