Speech to Congress

The best political speech I have ever heard.  If I was a liberal Democrat I would be looking for a rock to crawl under, their actions during the speech was an embarrassment to the whole party!

For sure! What Trump was lying and being a fool about was irrelevant in juxtaposition to a few Democrats making protests. Truly, your view of what is happening in world politics today is as relevant, by comparison, as your belief that old 20 man formations are relevant to skydiving today; that is to say ossified. Like the many hundreds of big ways I've been on by luck it's just another thing I've done. PM me your address and I'll spot you a couple of patches that extoll your old accomplishments.

What did you like about it?

Wendy P.

My favourite parts.

We are stripping away environmental regulations that hamper business. Followed up 20 minutes later with a diatribe about cancer and autism by chemicals in the environment.

Spends 5 minutes praising Elon Musk and him dismantling government, followed up with we are no longer going to be ruled by unelected bureaucrats.

He’s brought back free speech and got rid of censorship. But he’s just signed the take it down act and he will use it lots ‘because people are nasty to me online’

The perfect display of an autocrat disparaging the opposition, with no attempt at unity and not a single smile. The dignified displays of applause from the GOP like some 3rd world dictators rally.

He did admit that tariffs would bring “a little bit of temporary hardship”

Hi Nigel,

Those MAGA-types should realize that sometimes the truth hurts.

I like that he can lie so smoothly and without any apparent embarrassment, and that his sycophants lap it up.

As I have long said, you give him credit for being able to lie.  To someone who considers "truth" to be an abstraction at best, the difference between true and false is meaningless.

In Russian Prada means 'truth' and Izvestia means 'news,' hence the witticism that "in Pravda there is no Izvestia and in Izvestia there is no Pravda."

Thus it is ironic that Trump's platform is "Truth Social" (it's been done).

Given that he is a Russian asset, I see zero irony.

Again, calling him a Russian asset gives him too much credit.  "Unwitting tool of Moscow" at best.

I disagree as he appears to be fully "witting".

If he wouldn't fuck around with hookers and underage girls, it's quite possible Russia would only have financial interests to use as leverage.

Why are you using a different name, Winsor?

You are far too generous to him because you want to make excuses for your support.

Remember in this same speech he said the US would take possession of Greenland ‘one way or the other’. Territory of an allied sovereign state. He’s not cosying up to Russia because he doesn’t understand what they’re doing. He knows exactly what they’re doing and thinks it’s a brilliant idea worth copying. He sees Putin as far more of a kindred spirit than any democratically elected western leader because he himself hates having to operate within the constraints of a democracy.

The Dotard likes Russian and Putin because they are white and Christian and he sees them as a potential ally against the Muslim world. It is just that simple in his simpleton mind.

To this observer from across the pond it appears Trump and Vance seem hell bent on dissolving NATO.

Formed in 1949 in Washington NATO comprises a collective of countries who agreed to support each other in the event of hostility being targeted against any of its members. (Article 5)

In 76 years Article 5 has only been invoked once.

12 September 2001 by the USA, every member country stood by the US, most lost hundreds of troops in the subsequent war on terror in Iraq and Afghanistan.

I think all that goes through his mind is "what's in it for me?".

One of the things all us old farts forget is the 9/11 was 24 years ago. To most people under 40 that is a history lesson, not a life experience. A 30 year old was 6 years old at 9/11 they sure as hell don’t remember how everyone came together in support of the US.
