If you read the article, one non-skydiver guy is quoted by a non-skydiver reporter as saying, 'They put a machine 16 ft into the ground...'. To me, the fact that the guy said '16 ft' leads me to believe he heard that figure somewhere with regards to tunnel, so it might be a 16 footer.
