riggerrob 643 #2 April 28, 2013 I have a couple of herniated discs. The second was due to a plane crash. However, the first time I herniated a disc (1987) the surgeon recommended six months bed rest. Since I am not a very patient person, I opte dout of surgery. I took me three years to get back to jumping. The second time I herniated a disc (2008) I was able to return to jumping after only six months. The difference was that I started doing sit-ups, stretches, etc. as soon as possible after my second injury. These days, if I forget exercises for more than a week, sciatica returns to cramp my left leg. Bottom line, you can exercise to keep your spinal muscles in alignment, or you can lay around in agony. Your call!
