popsjumper 2 #26 April 24, 2013 QuoteAnd if your OB/GYN is adamantly opposed to it simply because it's skydiving, then you need to either quit skydiving, or find one who will work with you. Sure...shop around until you get that "Yes" answer you want. I'm opposed to pregnant women jumping. Period. My reality and yours are quite different. I think we're all Bozos on this bus. QuoteI'm opposed to pregnant women jumping. Period. And your expertise in this is???? Wendy P.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

I suspect that if your orthopod told you "no more skydiving, that's nuts" after a sprained ankle you'd shop around, too. (or more likely ignore him) >I'm opposed to pregnant women jumping. Period. That's fine. It probably won't come up for you.

FataMorgana 0 #34 April 24, 2013 Giving up something that we love, even temporarily, is never easy and we will always find justification for not doing it. However, the truth of the matter is that measurements have shown that on average, sport canopies tend to generate opening shocks averaging to the 3 to 6-Gs after a skydive performed at terminal velocity. Hard openings have been documented at about 9 to 12 G's. Any data on long and short term impact of the above G forces on pregnant or developing human body are very hard (if not impossible) to come by. So, at the current knowledge base, a rational discussion about safety of “pregnant jumping” is kind of like talking about things we do not know that we do not know. Luckily there is also that thing called common sense The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge.
