Skydiving pregnant...?

And if your OB/GYN is adamantly opposed to it simply because it's skydiving, then you need to either quit skydiving, or find one who will work with you.

Sure...shop around until you get that "Yes" answer you want.

I'm opposed to pregnant women jumping. Period.
My reality and yours are quite different.

Well, the OB I spoke with who was against jumping was also against my continuing to walk up the stairs to my work.

There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

If they're jumping, they'll likely have shoes on, and they can't make him a sammich.

Well, more like shop around until you get an informed answer. I suspect that if your orthopod told you "no more skydiving, that's nuts" after a sprained ankle you'd shop around, too. (or more likely ignore him)

That's fine. It probably won't come up for you.

...and shop around until you come up with an unrelated scenario that you think negates the opinion.

Let's hope not. Hold on a second....Hmmmmm...given the amount of money that would be involved,......

Does one need "expertise" to understand that miscarriages could happen? Nope.

Your expertise? Having been pregnant does not equate to having expertise.
My reality and yours are quite different.

Giving up something that we love, even temporarily, is never easy and we will always find justification for not doing it. However, the truth of the matter is that measurements have shown that on average, sport canopies tend to generate opening shocks averaging to the 3 to 6-Gs after a skydive performed at terminal velocity. Hard openings have been documented at about 9 to 12 G's. Any data on long and short term impact of the above G forces on pregnant or developing human body are very hard (if not impossible) to come by. So, at the current knowledge base, a rational discussion about safety of “pregnant jumping” is kind of like talking about things we do not know that we do not know. Luckily there is also that thing called common sense:)

The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge.
