Endoki 0 #1 January 22, 2013 We tried to view a post titled "Need tips to start a club", but were denied access. So any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also, does anyone have any specific, skydiving-related examples of bylaws? We are familiar with Robert's Rules and 501(c)(3) documentation. Lastly, advice such as "don't do it" is not necessary as we are in a situation where we need and want to do it. Thanks in advance for your help! wolfriverjoe 1,523 #2 January 22, 2013 Ok, if you don't want to hear "Don't do it", then good luck. Bylaws don't have to be skydiving specific. But they need to cover everything. Membership, including joining (buy in costs and procedures), staying a member, quitting, getting kicked out (unpleasant but sometimes necessary). Duties and responsibilities, how much work members have to do, who has to do what, who is allowed to do what (who gets keys to the hangar), all that. Make sure there's a clause in there about dissolving the club. You hope you won't need it, but if you do, you really need it. Get a good waiver. It will cost, but it's very important. Ask other DZs in your area who wrote theirs. The same lawyer may be able to help with the bylaws. You will need a large group of people willing to work. And I'm not talking about the "fun" part. I mean cleaning the toilets, picking up the garbage at the end of the day, sitting inside in the manifest office on the most beautiful days of the season. It's a lot of work, and people will burn out. I've been part of a club that went from 50+ down to less than 10, and we closed our doors 2 years ago But it was a lot of fun, and I don't regret any of the work I put in (and it was a hell of a lot). There's a certain "pride of ownership" that is there. Here's a couple of threads I found in a quick search: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2152446;search_string=bylaws%20club%20DZ;#2152446 http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4366109;search_string=bylaws%20club%20DZ;#4366109 "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit."
