That was there in case he had a mis/premature AAD fire and got stuck under canopy at 100k ft. He didn't have enough oxygen to breathe on that long of a canopy ride.

Is it possible the cypres on front was purely promotional as it seems to be turned off?

In that or a similar picture, published in a magazine, one could just barely make out that his special Cypres displayed "08 12" (I think) after landing, not the usual "0" . Not sure what that was about...
