steveorino 7 #1 November 4, 2012 I made my 3000th jump yesterday on an AFF Cat A with my Buddy Waz. It was fitting. I prefer AFFs and Tandems over fun jumps (except a WS) and it was out of a Cessna where probably 2800 of my jumps have been. If I come to your turbine DZ, don't be surprised if this old fart asks a lot of questions about jumping out of your bird. steveOrino

FlyingRhenquest 1 #3 November 4, 2012 Congrats! Our DZ just got the ol' Cessna up and running again. Can't wait to jump out of it, though the jumpers who have tell me it's kind of a pain in the ass getting in and out of it. Otter's really nice for exiting. You can dive from the door or climb out. I've seen a solid half the load climb out a couple of times. King Air's kind of nice for exiting. You can dive from the door or climb out, but it's windier and the door is pretty thin once you get used to the Otter. This complicates early AFF levels and stuff. I've also seen a solid three quarters of the load (8 or 9 way) climb out of that thing. That was actually a bit scary and took forever! If you want to see a lot of climb out exits from the Otter and a few from the King Air, Google around for Patrickskydiver's youtube channel. He's an instructor out there and posts all his videos up on youtube.I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here? airtwardo 7 #4 November 4, 2012 Congrats brother! And I feel your pain...we have so many different KINDS of turbines at Spaceland, sometimes I pull the old fart routine and ask...what's drill on THIS one?! ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~

Lower altitude, more time to sit and enjoy your friends' company. The large majority of my jumps are out of narrow body 182s.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

steveorino 7 #11 November 7, 2012 Keith, I remember you and Brew Dawg jumping with me all the time teaching mecto really skydive and it was all on your own dime. No coach/indtructor fees. Thanks buddy! steveOrino
skydived19006 4 #12 November 7, 2012 Cool! My percentages are pretty much the same regarding 182 v turbine. The thing that I don't like about turbines is that when you get a bunch of 182 skydivers around them, all they want to do is something way larger than the skill level says is going to work. I'd rather do a solid 4 way and turn multiple points, than follow (I won't go out early when the skill isn't there) a group out and watch the combat from above. I'll sit on the ground and drink beer, or go work the tandem concession. How long till you hit 4k?Experience is what you get when you thought you were going to get something else. I did about 500 a year the past two years so I expect 2-3 years depending on my wife cancer. steveOrino

Agreed. Vskydiver and I like to grab a couple of friends and do 4 way. Beats the group therapy dives all to heck.
