tbrown 26 #26 November 18, 2005 Anybody packing an AAD should take a regular look out the window or door after takeoff and check your altimeter for 750 ft. You're still buckled up in your seatbelt and your beeper thingy hasn't even beeped in your ear yet. Every time I look at 750 ft. I think, "My God, I don't EVER want to get this low before I get something open". It's so low that you will land wherever you open, IF you open (remember, it's an ACTIVATOR, not an "opener"). It's meant to protect the ground from your body more than the other way around and is only meant to function when it's too late for you to make a decision. I'm glad to have one, but if I can't be under something above at least a grand under my own power, then I have some serious questions to ponder. Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity ! Ummmm, actually what I meant was short of being bopped on the head or having a stroke in freefall, I'd have to do some serious thinking back on the ground about what my problem was if I couldn't get something opened all by myself. And whether or not I would or should continue tempting fate after such a serious fuckup. But then again I also believe we're all entitled to exactly ONE serious fuckup a lifetime before judgement is passed (unless gravity is the judge, in which case there are no appeals...). billvon 2,990 #30 November 20, 2005 Ron, Kallend, Kelp, stop with the Speakers Corner style fights. I deleted ten posts because it was all "oh, nice spin there" "your pathetic argument sucks" - and then it got into guns. Needless to say such arguments have no place in Safety and Training. jasonRose 0 #33 November 22, 2005 Thats a scary thought I never looked at it that way before. I hope my AAD never fires I figured it is cheap insurance if I am unable to pull for what ever reason. Not saying it's going to work but it's better than nothing at all. Some day I will have the best staff in the world!!!

mattjw916 2 #35 November 22, 2005 The Expert CYPRES can be recognized by the red button on the control unit. It activates the release unit when it detects a rate of descent higher than 78 mph (35 m/sec) at an altitude of approx. 750 feet (approx. 225 meters) above ground level (AGL). In the event of a cutaway below this height CYPRES will operate down to approx. 130 feet AGL, however activation will not occur unless sufficient speed is obtained. Below approx. 130 feet (approx. 40 meters) AGL opening is no longer useful. For this reason, CYPRES ceases operation below approximately 130 feet AGL. Please go read the manual before you kill yourself or others. http://www.cypres2.com/userguide/CYPRES_2_users_guide_english.pdfNSCR-2376, SCR-15080

Read them all and ask questions. SparkyMy idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Both they and Cypres have the manuals available as PDF off their web sites. Don't even need to wait for the gear to arrive to start reading. (BTW, who brought guns into an AAD discussion? Doesn't sound like something I'd do, but who knows? posts are gone)
