Brian Germain's Skydive Radio Interview

Recommended Posts

http://skydiveradio.com/show_files/sr14_11_08_05.mp3

I highly recommend that you play this radio show... I burned it to a CD and played it in the car on the way to the DZ today... Wow, I learned so much from Brian... It is one thing to read about all this stuff in his and other people's books...

It is another to hear it explained with clarity, examples, vocal inflection, etc. I learned so much, I think you guys all should play it too...

I refined my knowledge on:

1) Why a canopy turns and why the toggles change pitch, yaw and roll.

2) Why an elliptical canopy turns faster.

3) How to safely reverse a hard toggle turn (as the USPA requires on the A licence proficiency card)

4) Why harness input is crucial to make a coordinated turn, and why coordinated turns are good.

5) Why turning on the yaw or roll axis alone is bad

6) Why swoopers are having better results with adding weight instead of downsizing past a certain point.

7) Why to tilt my head to the horizon in a turn instead of keeping my neck stiff

8) How to correct a toggle turn close to the ground

9) The cause and effect of a flare

10) Gforces, why they matter, and how to increase them or lower them.

Great info... I tried a few of the things he said to try and I found myself an even better canopy pilot after hearing this... I really now want Brian to come to the DZ and teach a class.

wish I could hear it.. I'm deaf.. sent PM asking skydive radio if they'd change them into word.doc format so us deafies could "read" it... but they said NO unless someone wanted to do it...[:/]

Before I read your post first thing I thougt was "I sure would like to have this to read since I learn better by reading rather than listening". I will ask my wife to transcrip this into a doc format this week and will send it to whomever would like to read rather that listen - send me a PM in a few days to see if it has been done yet...

Make it a great day!

Isn't there software that does that, the way that a lot of shows are captioned on TV makes me think it is done by voice recognition.
People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am

That is so funny, because I learn by hearing!!!

If you want it in text form, buy the book, "the parachute and it's pilot" by Brian.:P I hope this radio show will translate to text well, as tone of voice and the placement of laughs and such, give more meaning than the words alone... But, once it is translated, will you please post it to this thread or PM me it? I would like to share it with friends and students.

Funny you should post this...I listened to it too and started jabbering all about it to my roomie and drove him nuts with telling what I learned...now to get into one of his training sessions/classes/seminars....
My reality and yours are quite different.
I think we're all Bozos on this bus.

MX757,
I really wish that we had the time and resources to do this ourselves. It's not that we don't want to accommodate you, only that none of us here have the time/typing ability to transcribe an hour long show every week. As I told you in your PM, if there are people out there with the ability to transcribe the show's we would be more than happy to host those files on our site.

buy the book, "the parachute and it's pilot" I have the book.
yes there is software out there that changes voice into text but you have to train it to recoized your voice and it won't get lot of terms we use in skydiving correct either. yes Dave you did tellme that I was just posting short condensed reply,
maybe someone will want to type it up while listening too it?? then it can be archived too for future searches??

no the closed captions done on taped TV shows and live news / live shows are done by stenographers with steno machines like those by court reporters, not "cheap" ( $$)
