BigDreams32 0 #1 July 1, 2012 How many coach skydives are required to obtain your A license? I hear 4, sometimes 5..does it vary DZ to DZ?
Shredex 0 #2 July 1, 2012 thought it varied on your skill and progression in learning.
BigDreams32 0 #3 July 1, 2012 I thought that too, but it seams to be a "fixed" number of jumps

Persons holding a USPA A license may jump without supervision, pack their own main parachute, engage in basic group jumps, perform water jumps, and must have- a. completed 25 jumps b. completed all requirements listed on the USPA A License Proficiency Card c. completed five group freefall skydives involving at least two participants d. received the signature and official stamp on the USPA A License Proficiency Card or USPA A License Progression Card (ISP) Note: For USPA A-license registration purposes only, USPA Headquarters will accept either completed card signed by a USPA Instructor without the official stamp. The registration fee must be included. http://www.uspa.org/Portals/0/Downloads/Form_ALicenseProgandApp.pdf http://www.uspa.org/Portals/0/Downloads/Form_ALicenseProfandApp.pdf I don't see anything about needing a set number of coach jumps. It's just good to have, cause they are the ones that teach you everything you need to know for passing and obtaining your A license. So it's wise to do at least a few with a coach. Looks like you have to have 5 two-way jumps. At our, and many DZ's, that means coach or better. Now, whether or not the coach charges you for that jump is a different matter. I've paid my way on a number of novice jumps.

popsjumper 2 #7 July 1, 2012 I can't believe we are getting so many different answers. Look at your A License progression card. How many jumps are listed where you will need somebody there with you to participate or observe. that's how many jumps you will have to do with.. - an instructor - a coach, or - a D-license holder approved by the S&TA or DZO. The 5 group skydives listed are nothing more than an optional elective for the manuevers (check dive) requirement. Evidently, you don't have a SIM. I would strongly suggest that you get one and actually read it.My reality and yours are quite different. I think we're all Bozos on this bus.
