Austintxflight 0 #1 June 5, 2012 So after the wingsuit landing on boxes a thought came to mind. If you had boxes stacked high enough to break your fall. ( I have no idea how high it would need to be) Wouldn't it be possible to do the jump with no rig and no wingsuit? So what does everyone think? Can it be done? obelixtim 150 #2 June 5, 2012 Its been done lots. Generally, called a bounce..... There are a couple of recorded cases of individuals surviving long freefalls with no rig.My computer beat me at chess, It was no match for me at kickboxing....
nigel99 501 #3 June 5, 2012 Yes it can be done, but your spotting would need to be perfect.Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
piisfish 140 #4 June 5, 2012 it is done thousands of time per day by whuffos strapping a TI/TM on their back scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM
adamUK 3 #5 June 5, 2012 Jump from 4000ft into a pile of boxes 3950ft high? That'd work
Maxx 1 #6 June 5, 2012 I think the deceleration from a freefall vmax into cardboard boxes would be so heavy, that you would die from internal injuries as a result. But I might be wrong. Who tries it first?
crotalus01 0 #7 June 5, 2012 Stuntmen used to do it all the time in the 20s and 30s (even up to the 80s in some countries) - well not freefall of course, but all the fall stunts back then were done into boxes, and the did some pretty damn big falls. I believe there was one done in Russia in the mid-80s that was close to 1800'. The guy walked away from it... As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD... uberchris 0 #8 June 8, 2012 so thats terminal..........the real issue would be a perfect spot.gravity brings me down.........
ManagingPrime 0 #9 June 9, 2012 Still jump with a rig. If you don't have a perfect spot...bail. I think the real issue would be one of economics. The material used would have to be very nearly indestructable (for the purpose in mind) and relatively cheap. If a 100 ft by 100 ft by 30 ft vat of Polystyrene packaging material would do the trick I think there would be a lot of interest.

JohnMitchell 16 #11 June 9, 2012 Quote.. There are a couple of recorded cases of individuals surviving long freefalls with no rig. Yep, I can think of two documented survivals with no chute out at all. Both times the guys went thru pine trees into deep snow on a steep slope. One had just minor broken bones, the other walked away (into a German POW camp).
