Eye problems

Recommended Posts

something has happened a couple of times when jumping....

seeing tiny bright white sparks in my vision, no pain, or any other sensation...just these little sparks jumping around, lasts about 10 seconds or so...once in the plane and once while doing a dive exit.

I know i should ask a doctor but i thought i would see if anyone else had encounted anything similar.

thanks

Were you looking at a blue sky or something else bright at the time? Can just be the extra light that passes through white blood cells as they flit through your retinal blood vessels. That is normal, everyone sees it if they look for it while staring at a blue sky.

Or I agree with the above, perhaps mild hypoxia.

Can't hurt to visit your eye doc. Chances are you are normal, but it is better to just double check.

About twenty-five years ago I was seeing ""sparkles" in my vision so often that a friend of mine started calling me Sparkles. Turned out to be low blood pressure. Would happen most often when I got up after sitting. Eat more salt. (This is non-medical advice, but it worked for me!)

As i was reading his post i immediately thought of you and was gonna tell him to PM you. But now i see you already responded anyway. It's so awesome to have an eye doc around here. I know you've helped me a lot with your insight and knowledge. :)

thank you for your advice. I am 36 and a smoker.
I suppose the mild hypoxia could be true with smoking.

I also had this happen on a ski lift whist boarding. So with the altitude on the slope and the bright snow and blue sky either reason could be true.

cut out the ciggies i suppose for a start.

Could be a BP thing - getting up from a seated postion suddenly/changing position quickly may result in a sudden decrease in BP. Make sure you are properly hydrated before you jump.
Don't recommend the salt intake to increase your BP though - go and see your doctor and have him check your BP etc.

Probably nothing to worry about.

Knock it off with the smoking. I know, easier said than done. Though I told my husband 3 years ago he'd have no chance at a long term relationship with me as a smoker. He cold turkied that day. I married him 4 months later and he hasn't smoked since :)
Besides that whole death thing, smoking also accellerates macular degeneration (I've seen heavy smokers in their 40s legally blind from this, something that normally doesn't start until late 60s/early 70s). Also accellerates cataracts.

Dude I hear ya on seeing them little white Sparkles. But I would not be to concerned though.
I just write them off to all those (Magical) days I had back in the 70's.
.
Man I wouldn't go to a Doctor unless you can pass a piss-test.........;)
