They tell me over the phone that they have tandems at 2pm and 3pm.

I drive down there....arrive at 1:35pm and just as I'm pulling into the parking lot I see the damn Caravan taking off!

Apparantly the info I got over the phone was bogus!
The 3 tandems were there at 1pm! So I got screwed.
There were no other fun jumpers there!

Hey, can anyone tell me when I missed the memo?

You know the one that says the world now revolves around Mr. Jaco?

I always tease the freefliers, but they know I'm just kidding. Experienced freefliers and experienced belly-fliers generally don't call each others discipline boring unless it is good-natured taunting.

But since you mentioned it... I am referred to as Mr. Expert. Don't worry, I used to do head down all the time before I got stable. You'll figure it out.

Yes didn't we see some head down on that muff bro initiation jump you took us on or was that just me? Hey at least I didn't loose my Muff!

I'm spoiled rotten, I was just at Skydive San Diego on a Saturday, I wasn't used to being at such a tame facility, I now can picture what you mean!

Too bad about your trip to San Diego But I've had the exact same thing happen at perris on several occasions, not often but it can happen. Take care of the one time tandems, students and families. Be incouraging, friendly and answer their families questions. Its a shame when a DZ turns into a tandem mill and neglects the fun jumpers but all DZs need them. I've talked to many DZOs small and big who are sick of dealing with skydiver egos. Its easier to deal with walk on walk off tandems.

The couple of times I jumped at San Diego I had a blast. Both the staff and the jumpers were great. My only regret was not having enough sunlight to do some FF jumps with the freak fliers as we were busy rockin in wingsuits down over the lake, can't wait to go back. I hope I help guests have as much fun when they visit us.

You don't want to get in the mindset of just jumping at one DZ. Get use to flying your body and canopy as many places with as many other people as you can. It will make you a better, safer skydiver.

I agree, Skydive SanDiego is a cool facility but the outhouses are unforgivable! I'm sorry but this is one thing that really bugs me!

I'm sure people here are getting sick of me bitch but try to understand....

I'm not interested in staring at 30 pounds of dog shit every time I have to take a leak! This isn't Woodstock or Burning Man! I need my running water! At least try to empty them once in a while!

Other than that, the place rocks.....it's got a really great views from above!

I think I just need to be more careful about when I go up there!

I want to fly RW like Airspeed, GK, Majik, etc. The more I do RW, the more I realize there is to learn.

Actually, right now, Airsped and GK want to fly like Majik...or at least like they did last week.

And since we're on the 182 kick - I'd like to point out that 3 members of "Majik" were born is South Africa and started jumping out of a 182 in Petermaritzburg, South Africa, - at the oldest DZ in the world.

Ahhh yes, the Magic Carpet. A Muff Brothers signature jump. People always have their doubts when we are describing it to them, but they can't stop talking once they get down. It is too much fun, isn't it? The videos are always awesome too. :)
We didn't do that many regular RW jumps at the convention. I do requests. Whatever the jumpers want.

We had one eight-way where a guy wanted something challenging. On the last point, he went low and then came up behind the cameraman and took him out. :S

Because of my other social obligations, I only got about 4 jumps a day in. Most were inflatable animals and rafts, but I did some Magic Carpets too. B|

You should try and spend a couple of years at a small 1 Cessna DZ. Maybe then you'd stop assuming waht jumping at a small DZ is like. By the way, hows your spotting?

hehe perfectly said Remster! Put these damn turbine bunnies back in their place! B|

Sorry to interject here...

Scott, I think the point is to be grateful and appreciative for what you have and not to publicly (or even privately, for that matter) put down someone else's home DZ and someone's livelihood.

Your posts may have been intended as innocent criticisms but they are being read as having come from an insensitive, self-centered, ungrateful person.

I don't think there is any reason to alienate you just because you have alienated others. You're young in the sport (although old enough to know better) and will hopefully learn alot over the years. Up jumpers at smaller dzs have things to offer that you will find less frequently at bigger ones - the pure desire to hang out as long as necessary to make a jump - the willingness to pitch in and cut the grass or put TP in the restrooms, just because... Often they take their home dzs much more to heart than those at bigger dzs. There's a loyalty and bond that often goes way deeper there.

Just be careful and sensitive when posting about something you have not had the privelege of learning yet.

:)

Great post, Freeflybella! You have good intentions.

Actually, Scott Jaco came from the same very small DZ that I did. We were a family there...no one was excluded. I know that Scott really loved that, as well as the extra altitude that we got. Weeeeee~ (It closed down many months ago.)

Scott ~ If you read this, what people are trying to say (no disrespect) is that you should be careful in being a little more tactful and sensitive in what you post about DZs. That's all. ~

Let's all get along!

Up jumper?

anyone that isn't a student. Basically all they are paying for is the plane ride up.

I'm suprised people are getting annoyed with me because I'm complaining about outhouses.

It's like I just put down the Pope!

Didn't I just say "I like Skydive SanDiego"? like three times?

What is the problem?

Ya, I hope they re-open Taft. Perris is cool for other reasons. I can't think of one other place (except maybe Elsinore) where you can just walk into a gear shop....
buy a brand new cypres and Protrack off the shelf. Square one is right there.

I didn't put down anybody or their dropzone, I said Skydive San Diego rocks!

I was just really annoyed yesterday when I drove all the way down there and didn't get to jump......they didn't seem to show me much dedication....maybe I should have just put all my gear in the car and bought a Tandem?

I don't know how else saying "a real dropzone" could be interpretted. Saying that your dropzone is a "real" one implies that others aren't. People felt like you put their dropzones down by implying that.

There are gear stores all over the place that have both of those in stock. Gee, I know of at least four in the state of Florida.... and at least one in Illinois, and one in Arizona, and one in New Jersey, and one in New York...

edit to add North Carolina and Pennsylvania and Mississippi...

Just reading your posts I'd say its because you insinuated anyone who jumped at a c182 DZ is as backwards as the DZ

Just my guess

Oh, you also sound like a whiner

Even at our backwards dz. you can buy a protrack right off the shelf, or an altimeter or a few other things. We do order the cypres' though as they are needed.
