JohnRich 4 #26 November 21, 2011 QuoteFrom the altimeter, it must have been a high-altitude fire -- or in Death Valley. Ground level about 150' MSL. It's not unusual to have altimeters change + or - 400 feet here in Houston as weather fronts move through. That altimeter needs to be jumped to see if it still works! QuoteIs this where they got the name Gunsmoke? Nah, that was probably from the ammo cooking off. Bullets popped out the front like a cork, and primers popped out the back. Attached: A miracle. After sifting through the ashes of a bedroom for days, she found her wedding rings, her mother's wedding rings, and her great aunt's wedding rings. Woohoo! Another fire mystery: I found a wrapped chocolate-coated candy bar in the ashes, opened it, and it was in perfect shape, chocolate unmelted. This was in a fire that was hot enough to melt metal. Explain that!

rrmtopo 1 #28 November 21, 2011 My first full custom rig ended up a puddle of goo when the Z-Hills loft burned in the late 80s. Got the call on Thursday afternoon that it arrived, showed up Saturday morning to still see the loft smoldering......not cool.
kkeenan 14 #29 November 21, 2011 Reminds me of the tent that burned at WFFC one year. The occupant went to sleep (or passed out) with a candle burning. They woke to a blazing tent, and escaped with minor injuries. The rig, which was in the tent, was on display the next day by manifest with a donation jar next to it. Just looking at that rig made people whimper. _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?
