You should only worry if you have newer nicer gear! JK

All joking aside, I find that having a box to put all your gear in is best in terms of NOT losing any gear/valuables and if you want to even stay on the safer side of caution buy a pad lock. Perhaps also have a line lock and tie it down to something bolted down so that your box can not be moved.

trust is good but it suck ass when it doesn't work out.

bike shops sell retractable wire locks used to secure helmets and jackets but the only goes so far.

not being stupid, trusting that you havent been stupid, and trusting those that know how stupid you are won't steal your gear (or have better gear) are the only opitons i see.
