alex3321 0 #1 October 11, 2011 Hi! My name is Alex and im 16.... I live in north texas by Dallas. I have fallen in love with the idea of skydiving and now want to do it more than ever. I was planning on going skydiving for my 17th birthday but the only DZ in texas that allows 16+ is Texas Skydiving which is by Austin. Now if I were to start AFF training as in doing level 1, when i turn 18 would another DZ, say Dallas skydive accept it as completed? idk how i have to get a license but its alot of money to waste so i want to be very conscious of my choices. Thanks!
 JohnMitchell 16 #2 October 11, 2011 If there's a big time gap between your first and second jump, it's a waste of money. IF Skydive Dallas accepts your logbook of having jumped in Austin a year before, they'll still need to retrain you to their procedures and refresh all your training. Why don't you call or email Skydive Dallas and ask what their policy is? Just doing the level 1 ain't going to help you. Save up for a year after that and then hit a dz with a wad of cash for your 18th birthday. Meanwhile, don't waste a cent on anything else. Study the sport and how people die from it. Also study how people live from it. They'll want you to sign a waiver, which is invalid if you are a minor as defined in that area's legal system. In other words, if you are not of legal age to be held to a signed contract, the license you get from a DZ willing to license you as a minor will probably be worthless at most other DZs. You could call a few and ask - but the better idea was from the person suggesting some tunnel fun and saving your actual jump money for when you turn 18." . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
 Austintxflight 0 #6 October 12, 2011 From my understanding its about being current, skydiving is not like scuba diving where you get certified don't dive in a year and step back into it. I actually did my AFF level 2,3 and 4 at Texas Skydiving near Austin and had a friend do a tandem there and his Level 1 and 2. James is a good instructor who really helps you relax. But what most people have said is true, if you have a long gap between your AFF levels you will basically be starting over. (Also being from texas I know there is no tunnel nearby so that advice doesn't help) You should by all means do a tandem, get a feeling for it, enjoy it, dip your toes in the pool, but the best advice is to keep your your AFF levels jumps close to each other so you stay current and are able to remember them to learn. Best advice, do your tandem out there, you could even do a working tandem. The jumps could count towards your 25 on your license but hold off on doing AFF until you are 18 and know you can get them done. In the mean time save the money so you know you don't have a financial delay slowing your AFF or license progression.
