bei337 0 #1 August 30, 2011 So I went skydiving 2 days ago. It was a tandem jump. The free fall was supposed to last about 50 seconds, but in reality it was only 30 seconds and the parachute opened without my tandem instructor pulling the cord! I can see in the video that he indeed hadn't touched the ripcord and we were both surprised by the chute opening! Luckily nobody got hurt, and I loved the whole experience! Would definitely do it again :) But I am just wondering does this happen often? I could post the video if you guys are interested.
quade 4 #2 August 30, 2011 Premature deployments happen sometimes for various reasons. It's not normal, but it's not unheard of by any means. Even if we had the video to look at, it might be impossible to tell exactly what would have caused it because a couple of details might be out of view of the camera and even if they were there's probably not enough detail in the pictures to show what happened. Like I said, it could be for a couple of different reasons. Link to the video, but as I said, it might not tell us much.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
