hangdiver 1 #26 July 22, 2011 I had an altimeter lie to me once and never trusted another one... I made 1,000's of jumps without one...eyeballs...eyeballs....are the best altimeter you can get. When in doubt..whip it out! hangdiver "Mans got to know his limitations" Harry Callahan
kd5xb 1 #27 July 22, 2011 Quote Quote I prefer an altimeter and an audible on every jump, but have jumped without either. I use them as backups to my MK5 eyeball altimeter. If all else fails, pull. I'm so old that MINE are Mark .0's! I probably shouldn't have posted that without also adding that I once forgot my altimeter and we were already on the taxiway when I realized it. "It's all right guys, when I see you dump, I'll dump, too." Didn't work. I ended up below 500 feet under my reserve. Not fun.I'm a jumper. Even though I don't always have money for jumps, and may not ever own a rig again, I'll always be a jumper.
