So few people so few produces and thus the price is fixed. Such is life, now to find $1,500 for a new one since these things seem to hold their value rather well.Life through good thoughts, good words, and good deeds is necessary to ensure happiness and to keep chaos at bay. davelepka 4 #6 July 15, 2011 Quotenow to find $1,500 for a new one since these things seem to hold their value rather well Are you buying a Cypres? They don't hold their value at all. Ever since SSK put the value calculator on their website, the depreciation is fixed, and they lose value everyday. Back before the 12 year life limit was introduced, they did hold their value pretty well. Once the 12 year deal was introduced, the values took a hit, but used prices were still all over the place. You could find some cheapo deals from people looking for a quick sale or who just didn't care about the money. Now hat SSK as the value calculator (which is just a depreciation calculator because people are too lazy to do the math themselves) and you combine that with the 12 year life, it's a fixed price market. They're worth what they're worth, and you can get the 'market value' for a used one in less than a day on DZ.com classifieds, or on most DZs across the country. Jumpers are always looking for an AAD with a low acquisition price because that leaves more money for jumps. All that said, Cypres is still my choice. Cost of ownership is about $150/year including maintenance, and that seems like a fair price for a proven product with a solid safety record. If I'm going to wrap a cutter around my reserve closing loop, and then skydive and ride in planes with my friends and other jumpers, I need to know that it's not going to fire unless it's really time to fire. zen_mtn_climber 0 #7 July 15, 2011 +1 Cypres AADs depreciate basically linearly. If you can't lay out $1500 for a brand new AAD, take your time and buy a used AAD. Check the classified here regularly. They pop up from time to time. In the Cypres case, one thing to watch for is that they require 4yr and 8yr maintenance. I'm fine with the maintenance windows and I'm happy with my current Cypres1. The maintenace caution is just that if you were buying a 4yr old Cypres, either make sure the maintenance has been done already or, if not, make sure the price is adjusted accordingly since you'd be paying to have the maintenance performed. My Cypres1 expires next summer. Saving now so I could buy new if I had to but over the winter I'll be looking for a used Cypres2. zmc"Whatever the future holds down the road, being true to yourself is something you won't ever regret doing. DrewEckhardt 0 #8 July 16, 2011 QuoteAAD's are like Apple computers. Same price no matter where you by them if they are new? Correct? No. I bought my Cypreses at wholesale cost from a DZO who thought it was more important for jumpers to have AADs than to make a profit on the ones he sold. IIRC they were about $825 (the dollar was strong against the Deutsche Mark!) and $900 with retail prices running around $1200-$1300.
