guppykf 0 #1 June 25, 2011 i have some work coming up in VA in a couple months and I was looking up DZ's close by for weekend time. Skydive Orange is the closest to where I'll be and their website is really overwhelming (very wordy). the other VA DZ's and NC DZ's are over 4 hrs away from where I'll be. So I came to DZ.com search to see what up jumpers thought and all I can find is old stuff from 2004 or tandem comments, so trying to get licensed jumpers opinions of the place. So anyone jump there? Landing area? big or small? Surrounding area- got outs or hazards nearby? Whats the vibe?THRIVING IN MY DASH!!
wildcard451 0 #2 June 25, 2011 The website....yeah. It's currently being re-designed to actually look like a real webpage.Overall good vibe (been there for 9 years) with a good mix of FF and belly jumpers. Open groups, and most people will jump with anyone (so long as you don't prove yourself a complete retard). Upcoming wingsuit crowd. Otter turns all day on weekends, as well as a good number of jumpers coming out wed and fridays. Main landing area is fairly large with pea gravel pit. Sometimes a manicured soccer/football field to land on when not being used by youth rec league sports teams (not a stadium), and a separated staff/HP landing zone. Come on out, we'll show you around. ETA: Good night scene - social after jumping hours.
Southern_Man 0 #3 June 25, 2011 Quote I don't know if the campground is still there but they are a short drive from town and there are decent places to stay including one really great B&B called the Shadow-something or other. There is still camping available at the DZ."What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

skydiver30960 0 #8 July 7, 2011 I can't believe you guys are knocking the website. You could stay entertained (or lost) for hours on that site. ETA: PLUS, the best-looking tandem instructor EVER to jump at Orange is highlighted on the front page of the site. That is, you would know he's the best-looking tandem instructor ever to jump at Orange if his face wasn't so perfectly hidden by the student's head. Elvisio "cold hannys?
